All About ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’
The show consists of a panel of four performers who create on-spot characters, scenes, and songs in the style of improvisation games. The topics of the games are based on either the suggestion of the audience or the prompts that are decided in advance by the host, who sets up the games/situations for the performers to improvise.
In between the games, the performers used to sit in four chairs facing the audience. The person who is not involved in the game remains seated. The show is more like a humorous banter between the reformer and the host. In the end, the winner/ winners are chosen by Carey. The price was either to play a game with the host or to sit down while other performers did so.
The number and type of games differ from episode to episode. All the games were designed to test the performer’s improvisational comedy skills. There were some games that required the host to ask for suggestions from the audience for any specific topics or situations. While at times, the suggestions were written by the production staff or submitted in advance by the audience.
The host controls the buzzer that signals the end of most games or the end of individual sections of rapid-fire games such as ‘Scenes From A Hat.’ The performers are also tested on their singing, impression, and dancing as the show Whose Line Is It Anyway features many such musical games.
