Blockbuster is a new workplace comedy show in America. The employees of the last Blockbuster store in America serve as the show’s main characters. Initial announcements were made by Vanessa Ramos, the show’s creator, in November 2021. The show is finally ready to be released on November 3rd, almost a year after it was first announced.
Because so many talented people were involved in the production, the show received a lot of attention. Viewers and critics have high expectations for the show because of the cast, which is led by Randall Park, and the show’s creator, Ramos.
Ramos has already worked on a variety of significant projects, including Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Crashing, and Kenan. We can be confident that Blockbuster will be a solid comedy to watch on Netflix this November because of her experience and talent.
Blockbuster Trailer
Early in the first week of October, the trailer was made available on Netflix’s official YouTube channel. The trailer is hysterically funny. It is a montage of some of the funny jokes and punchlines that will be featured in the show. The trailer’s pitch is quite humorous while also being very carefree. As the characters cooperate at the video store, we catch our first glances at them and their humorous interactions.
While watching the trailer, you can’t help but smirk or chuckle a little. Except for a few major setups, the bulk of the show will likely focus on the characters’ comical interactions in-store, which, by the way, seems to be exactly on point.
A flawless layering of sarcastic humor, clever character introductions, and truly funny moments make up the two-and-a-half-second-long trailer. The majority of the main characters are presented during the trailer, and each of them develops throughout each sequence.
What To Expect From Blockbuster
We already have a general notion of what the show will be like based on the trailer and show-related rumors. We can hopefully anticipate many more amazing jokes throughout the show because of the ones in the trailer. The chemistry between the major characters is also really strong, and all of the characters so far seem to be quite interesting.
It is possible to draw comparisons to comedies like The Office and Superstone based on the comedy’s pitch and the plot’s central premise. But as viewers, we might be left with a lasting impression by the realistic and perhaps unusual depiction of the interactions of a video store’s staff.
These days, with so many streaming platforms available, content is largely consumed online, making video stores a fading industry. As such video stores were formerly relatively well-known and destinations for movie enthusiasts, the show also tends to stir up feelings of nostalgia in the viewers.
We can only guess at some of the major plot points since the show is simply getting ready for a fresh start. But the things to watch out for will be the naturally funny exchanges amongst the staff and the supposedly romantic aspect of the two main characters.
Blockbuster Cast
Randall Park
The Always Be My Maybe actor is playing the role of Tommy in this upcoming show. Tommy is one of the main leads of the show and is portrayed as an admirer of movies. In the trailer itself, he is shown making movie references here and there to flex his interest and love for movies.
Melissa Fumero
Fumero is acting as Eliza, who is going through times and has to work in the store to make ends meet. She is a married lady whose marriage with her high school lover wasn’t working out well. We have seen her playing amazing roles in several famous shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Gossip Girl, and many more.
Carlos, an employee of the store, is played by Tyler Alvarez. We have previously seen him acting in shows like Never Have I Ever and Veronica Mars.
Madeleine Arthur
Our Christine from To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is playing the role of Hannah in Blockbuster. She was one of the other employees working at the store.
Olga Merediz
She is playing the role of Connie, the maternal figure at the store. She simply seems to be enjoying her time at the store with the other young employees.
J.B. Smoove
He plays the role of Timmy’s best friend, Percy, in the show. Percy is also the owner of the store.
Kamaia Fairburn
She is playing the role of Percy’s daughter Kayla. She, too, works at the Blockbuster store with Timmy and the rest. Ashley Alexander and Robyn Bradley will also be appearing in the upcoming show as guest appearances with their roles of Mila and Miranda, respectively.
Blockbuster Production
Blockbuster’s early filming began in February 2022, but the official shooting didn’t begin until April in Vancouver, Canada. Since most of the shots took place within the store, filming was completed as soon as the new month began.
Although the filming and production went quite easily, the pre-production phase was a little difficult. Before partnering with Netflix, Universal Television first pitched the Blockbuster concept to NBC and several other networks. Up until Netflix chose to approve the show, the other networks didn’t seem to like the concept.
After the initial announcement was made, several talented writers came on board to write for the show. The list includes Vanessa Ramos, Jackie Clarke, Rachel Pegram, and many more. All these writers have previously written for many popular shows.
Blockbuster Episode Guide
The upcoming office comedy show will have ten episodes of around thirty minutes each. The scripts of the episodes are written by Vanessa Ramos, Jackie Clarke, Rachel Pegram, Francisco Cabrera-Feo, Tristan Bailey, Mary Nguyen, Leila Strachan, Bridger Winegar, and Brandon James Childs. The titles of the episodes are not announced yet.
