Damian Leone’s disturbing horror flick welcomes the return of the killer clown from Art, the Clown in the sequel to the 2016 film Terrifier. Written and directed by Damien Leone, the sequel wreaks havoc and bloodshed at every turn following the return of Art, the silent killer clown played by David Howard Thornton.
When Art commits suicide in the original, his body is recovered from the morgue after being resurrected by a malevolent entity, and he becomes a chilling local legend in Miles County and is still looking for new victims. Art comes to mind for his first victim, the teen girl he killed years ago at the county fair. Sharing his clown makeup and seeing the little girl Sienna and her brother Jonathan leaves her speechless too. She acts as his sidekick throughout the film, but only Sienna, Jonathan, and Art can see her.
The original Terrifier, released in 2016, was primarily shot in Trenton. This new classic horror tale filled with gore goes through gloomy lanes, and Halloween shops, packed goth clubs, and fans are rooting for the film’s hefty blood. The splatter movies were shot in various settings in and around New Jersey, New York, and Philadelphia. The production team chose locations that convey a “Halloween and Gothic Feeling.” Filming was delayed significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it eventually finished on July 10, 2021. Production began in October 2019 and was due to be finished in three months.
QXT’s nightclub at 248 Mulberry Street in Newark served as the backdrop for many scenes in the film. QXT was built in the ’70s to resemble a Spanish castle. The club was a great choice. It complemented the movie scene perfectly, so there was retro goth on the bottom and synthpop on top.
In an interview with Asbury Park Press, director Leone said that It’s beautiful on camera and has great production values. The area has been used to shoot movies like The Trials of the Chicago 7 and Former Disposer Robert De Niro’s Inappropriate Behavior. The Director was grateful that they allowed us to film there.
Some sequences were filmed at producer Phil Falcone’s home in Manapalang, Monmouth County, New Jersey, as part of the production’s pre-production. Falcone updated his enjoyment of the brutal shoot to the Asbury Park Press, writing, “My wife keeps yelling at Damian and me about when to clean up. Body parts are strewn all over the house. Lots of them.” films were shot in Manalapan Township, New Jersey, including Never Among Friends, Big Weekend, My Best Friend’s Wife, and The Backseat.
The cast and crew also traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to shoot some sequences. In particular, it was filmed at one of the nation’s spookiest attractions, the Flight Factory. The grown-up haunted house in the basement of a 100-year-old factory at 2200 South Swanson Street was also one of his filming locations for Terrifier 2.
New York City, the southernmost city in upstate New York, was used as a location for a small portion of the film. In particular, the sequence in the film where Sienna and Ally visit a costume store was filmed at a real magical costume store called Abracadabra in the heart of New York City, conveniently located next to the Flatiron Building at 19 West 21st Street. Located on location, it is known for its vast collection of costumes, wigs, prosthetic makeup, props, magical paraphernalia, masks, and other apparel. Needless to say, costume shops have taken the place of deadly clown movies.
The movie is very fan-driven. Fans across the globe have been dying to see this vomit-inducing movie and are now asking for the movie to be nominated for the Oscars. Everyone very well knows that the movie doesn’t reach the standards. Why are they nominating it, then? Fans wanted to pull a prank on the committee as they will have to sit through this extremely gore, nasty film, which they very well know is beneath them. Fun.
Now, director Damien Leone’s twisted horror tale can be watched at home by those who are afraid to step into a dark and unfamiliar theater.
