The magnificent Peleş Castle in Romania served as the primary location for the fairytale realm of the Netflix television series A Christmas Prince.
The Christmas Prince series was described as “90 minutes of Prince Harry holiday fan fiction that feels 75 minutes too long,” even Netflix, which produced the movies, asked returning viewers, “Who wounded you?”
The release of A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding and A Christmas Prince: Royal Baby, two sequels, has continued despite this, too. The official residence of the monarchs of Aldovia is Peleş Castle, located in the charming hamlet of Sinaia (Romania). Halfway between the capital city of Bucharest and the historic city of Brasov, in the Carpathian Mountains, is one of the country’s most stunning castles.
\Instead of being a fortress, this Neo-Renaissance masterpiece was built between 1873 and 1914 to be the summer home of Carol I, the first monarch of Romania.
Ceauşescu and the cultural elite utilized the castle as a retreat and place to rest during the early years of the Communist administration. From 1953 until it was shut down, from 1975 to 1990, this national landmark was a museum. It is once again owned by the former Romanian royal family today.
The entryway and courtyard of Peles Castle, filled with beautiful statues, were used to film several sequences at the Aldovian royal home.
The site is a popular tourist destination, and the interior rooms are as impressive and highly well-kept, having never been looted or destroyed. The Cantacuzino Castle, where filmed Wednesday, is less than five kilometers from the Peles Castle.
The inside of the Cotroceni Building, or Palatul Cotroceni in Romanian, was recorded somewhere else even though it is now a national museum. This magnificent estate in Bucharest is close to the President of Romania’s official residence.
Filming for scenes involving the aristocratic residence of Aldovia took place in several of Cotroceni’s rooms and hallways, including the grand staircase. This was the former Royal Palace of the kings of Romania; it was built in 1895.
Several scenes, most notably the press conference outside the lavish government building, was set in the Romanian Athenaeum. This stunning concert hall was constructed in 1888 and is a testimony to the richness of Bucharest’s pre-war heyday. It is located in the city center.
Where was A Christmas Prince filmed?
The Aldovia International Airport is located at the Aurel Vlaicu International Airport in Bucharest. This airport was now exclusively used for private planes and was the city’s first. In 1952, this terminal structure with a colossal central dome was inaugurated.
The historical structures at the Peleș Castle complex’s gates served as the backdrop for the Christmas event to benefit the Saint Joseph Orphanage. The Princess Switch’s fictional Montenaro kingdom was filmed in Romania to some extent as well. Lavania, the film recorded in New Zealand for The Royal Treatment, should be added to the list of fictional countries created by Netflix.
The majority of the exterior scenes of Richard’s opulent palace were shot at the Peleș Castle in Sinaia, Romania, which many people found humorous when Christmas decorations were placed on the structure during filming throughout Easter.
The beautiful Carpathian Mountains flank the Neo-Renaissance castle. It has previously served as the location for the upbeat holiday movies A Princess for Christmas and Royal Matchmaker.
The 19th-century recreational complex Bragadiru Palace was added to Richard’s Aldovian castle to complete its appearance. The structure was also utilized for the classic Christmas movies Christmas at the Palace and A Princess for Christmas. Who knew that Christmas had such a solid royal connection?
Many interior photos of Richard’s palace were taken in the Cotroceni National Museum. The former wing of the Cotroceni Palace is now the Cotroceni National Museum. The President of Romania resides in the palace’s more modern portion. Even so, it is no longer the home of the regal family.
When the Christmas decorations are removed, one can almost make out that the coronation room is a part of a university rather than the palace. One of Romania’s largest and most important academic institutions, the Carol Davila Medicine and Pharmacy University, works with approximately 20 hospitals in Bucharest.
