Geralt of Rivia, played by Henry Cavill, is a powerful monster hunter who is also known as the “Witcher,” suggesting the title of the series. He meets Ciri, the crown princess of Cintra, to become her protector. Throughout the series, we see Geralt protecting Ciri from evil forces. He always fights against the dark forces to prevent the decline of their land through the use of powerful dark magic.

The plot of the series is based on a medieval fantasy land known as the Continent. The show starts from the development of the main characters separating at the start to finally meeting in the later episodes.

The Witcher Season 1 Filming Locations

The pre-production of the series took a long period as initially, the creators wanted to make a standalone movie based on The Witcher book series by Andrzej Sapkowski. But the plan of condensing the eight-novel-long book into a single movie was soon declined, and it was decided that the source material could be used to produce a long-running series instead.

And thus, the decision to make a series out of the book series got finalized in May 2017. The filming of the first season started in late 2018. To meet the needs of the source material, the show was shot mostly in beautiful European landscapes of Hungary and Austria. Studios like the Mafilm Studios and Origo Studios were used by the production team for assistance.
