He worked as Tom Brady’s backup for the Patriots for three years, from 2011 to 2013, during which time. He relocated to the Houston Texans in 2014.

Mallett was rated by the Patriots as the best quarterback available in the 2011 draft by Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network; however, the Patriots selected six other quarterbacks before selecting Mallett, drawing comparisons to Tom Brady, who was selected as the seventh quarterback in 2000.

Prior to transferring to Arkansas, Mallett played for the University of Michigan for one season. In his two seasons there, he passed for 7,493 yards and 62 touchdowns. He earned Offensive MVP honors in 2009 for leading the Razorbacks to victory in the Liberty Bowl and a record under Bobby Petrino’s coaching.

Mallett attended the 2019 XFL Tampa Bay Summer Showcase, but the league did not select him. He participated in 2021 with The Spring League Generals. In his first game, Mallett defeated the Jousters 21-19 by completing 20 of his 31 passes. He was chosen as the South Division Player of the Week for week six.

Mallett’s recruitment as an assistant coach at Mountain Home High School in Mountain Home, Arkansas, was made public on April 16, 2020. He started as the football head coach at White Hall High School in White Hall, Arkansas, in 2022.
