Josey McNamara has given fans a tantalizing glimpse into the upcoming Ocean’s 11 prequel, which is currently in the works and set to feature the dynamic duo of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, reuniting the Barbie stars in an exciting new film.
“They’re wonderful together. The more projects, even outside of that, we can have them do would be amazing,” McNamara shared during an interview with Games Radar at the BFI London Film Festival, where she graced the Saltburn red carpet with her presence.
Regarding the film’s actual plot, McNamara remained tight-lipped but offered an enticing hint that it would “do right by the franchise.” She added, “I can’t really say much, but I think we’re just trying to do right by the franchise. I’m excited for people to experience it when it’s ready.”
The Ocean’s 11 prequel has been in “active development” since last year, with Carrie Solomon penning the script set in the glamorous backdrop of 1960s Europe. Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerly will be taking on producer roles for LuckyChap, while Roach and Michelle Graham will produce for Everyman Pictures. Additionally, the executive producing team will include Gary Ross, Olivia Milch, and LuckyChap’s very own Josey McNamara, along with Village Roadshow, which may also co-finance the production.
The Ocean’s franchise was originally launched by Steven Soderbergh in 2001 and was based on the 1960 Rat Pack classic. The original film starred the likes of George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts, and it went on to gross over $450 million worldwide. Sequels followed in the form of Ocean’s Twelve (2004) and Ocean’s Thirteen (2007). In 2018, the franchise was given a fresh twist with Ocean’s 8, featuring an all-star, female-centric cast that included Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina, Helena Bonham Carter, and Rihanna.
Fans of the Ocean’s franchise can now eagerly anticipate this prequel as it ventures into the past, with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling poised to add their own unique charm to the iconic series.
