Julia Fox has candidly shared her experience of an “overwhelming” relationship with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. During her appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” she delved into her memoir, “Down the Drain,” shedding light on her whirlwind two-month romance with a man she affectionately refers to as “the artist.”
The model and actress disclosed how Ye frequently demanded her time and attention, reaching a point where it became “unsustainable” to juggle the relationship alongside her responsibilities as a parent to her 2-year-old son, Valentino, whom she co-parents with her ex, Peter Artemiev. She emphasized that her son’s well-being must take precedence, expressing, “My son has to be first. It just became too much, like I didn’t sign up to have two babies. Ultimately, I think he needed a full-time person, and I just couldn’t be full-time.”
Fox even resorted to wearing AirPods while tending to her motherly duties, an emblem of the challenges she faced. She articulated, “I’d have to change diapers, and so I bought a pair of AirPods so I could keep it in while I was doing mom stuff. It was just—it was so overwhelming and so unsustainable.”
In her own words, she remarked, “I think I just realized very quickly it just wasn’t gonna be sustainable because ultimately I cannot put anybody else first.” The “Uncut Gems” star discussed the inner workings of her life and high-profile relationships in her recently released memoir.
She disclosed her evolving perspective on fame, saying, “People ask me what it’s like to be this famous. The truth is, I’m not a celebrity, and I don’t claim that title. I’m an artist in the role of a lifetime, playing Me. And nothing about my life has changed. Being sexy had been my identity for so long, and I was consumed by it. I’m unlearning all the brainwashing and learning to love myself for more than just the way I look.”
In the book’s climax, Fox divulged intimate details about her time with Ye, though she didn’t directly reference him by name. Readers could discern her subject through context, including mentions of the artist’s appearance on “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” and his estranged wife.
Furthermore, Fox highlighted her refusal to sign a nondisclosure agreement despite his persistent requests. Her disillusionment grew as she described the artist’s involvement in her fashion choices, which solely included items he approved. Her discomfort heightened when he casually offered to “get you a boob job” while she was trying on ill-fitting clothing.
As their relationship seemed to lean more toward publicity, Fox expressed her sense of being used, describing it as a “weird, twisted game” that left her feeling tarnished.
