The actress, aged 53, has shared two screenshots of her last conversation with Perry, who tragically passed away due to an apparent drowning at his Los Angeles home on Saturday. She paid tribute to the beloved actor.
Both of them appeared together in the 1988 film “A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon,” which marked Perry’s film debut.
Perry, aged 54, wrote in a text message to Skye on October 15, “Hi! I hope all is well. I was meditating (I meditate now) and ‘In Your Eyes’ started playing. And I instantly thought of how beautiful you are,” referencing the song from her 1989 film “Say Anything.” Skye replied with, “Awe. I love that. Xo,” to which he responded, “Hope you are healthy and happy.”
Skye expressed that it was “good to hear” from him and added, “I only have nice memories with you.” Perry reminisced, saying, “Me too. That one afternoon, I was just sitting in my apartment, and there you were!” Skye also shared a throwback photo of her with the “Friends” star when they both appeared to be teenagers, along with the caption, “My last exchange a week ago. I’m very, very sad. Loved this guy.”
Perry was discovered deceased on Saturday afternoon at his residence in L.A. In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, his family expressed their heartbreak, saying, “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him, and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”
Tributes similar to Skye’s have been pouring in since the news broke, with fellow actors like Hank Azaria, Shannen Doherty, and Selma Blair sharing their love for the late actor. Azaria, aged 59, described Perry as the “funniest man ever” in a lengthy video posted on Instagram on Sunday. Doherty, aged 52, wrote on Instagram, “Our friendship spanned a long time. A lifetime really. Right now, shock and sadness prevail.” Blair, aged 51, paid tribute to Perry, referring to him as “my oldest boy friend” and expressing her deep sorrow.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, first responders arrived at Perry’s residence at 4:07 p.m. on Saturday. An LAFD spokesperson stated, “An adult male patient was deceased prior to first response arrival. The patient was found by a bystander who had repositioned the victim where the head was out of water” in a freestanding jacuzzi. “Firefighters pulled the victim out of the jacuzzi and did a quick medical assessment to find he was deceased.” TMZ obtained a 911 dispatch audio that mentioned “drowning” in relation to the emergency call made to Perry’s home.
