Kelly Clarkson graced the stage on Tuesday for her renowned “Kellyoke” segment, even shedding a few emotional tears as she delivered her own heartfelt rendition of Olivia Rodrigo’s hit single, “Vampire.” With a mysterious figure at the piano, who could easily be mistaken for Uncle Fester, Clarkson poured her soul into the song’s radio-friendly lyrics: “The way you sold me for parts as you sunk your teeth into me/Bloodsucker, dream crusher/ Bleeding me dry, like a damn vampire.”
In a June interview with Rolling Stone, the talented singer-songwriter Rodrigo shared the inspiration behind the song. She recalled sitting down at the piano, playing chords that evoked a gothic atmosphere.

Rodrigo explained, “I think there’s a lot of vampire lore to be played with, like ‘You only come out at night’ and stuff like that. There’s a lot of fun songwriting fodder in there.” She further added, “I think it reflects the journey that I was going through and the anger that gets pent up in an experience like the one that the song’s about.”
