The successful singer-turned-entrepreneur has never shied away from discussing her struggle with addiction. She openedly described her path to rehabilitation in her 2020 memoir, “Open Book,” narrating a particularly trying time when she reached her lowest point and couldn’t even get her kids dressed for a Halloween celebration.

People magazine reported that she talked about what happened the next morning, saying, “I slept in, afraid to see [my children], afraid I had failed them. I hid until they left, then drank.” She then confided in her friends and had a turning point, admitting, “I need to stop. Something’s got to stop. And if it’s alcohol that’s doing this and making things worse, then I quit.”

Jessica commemorated her sobriety anniversary by sharing a moving photo that was taken on November 1, 2017, the day that changed her life.

Jessica wrote, “The person you see in the early morning of November 1, 2017, is unrecognizable to me now. I had a profound journey of self-discovery ahead of me. In that very moment, I decided to reclaim my light, triumph over my inner struggles with self-respect, and face the world with newfound clarity.” as the caption for her original post commemorating her four-year milestone.

She continued by saying, “For me, this transformation required giving up alcohol, as it was keeping my mind and heart trapped in a repetitive cycle, and to be honest, I was utterly exhausted. I wanted to confront my pain, wear it as a badge of honor, and live like a leader, breaking free from destructive patterns and moving forward without dwelling on regrets or past choices.”

“There’s a lot of stigmas associated with the term ‘alcoholism’ and being labeled as a ‘alcoholic.’ The real work that needed to be done in my life was to accept failure, pain, brokenness, and self-sabotage. The issue wasn’t the drinking; it was me. I didn’t love myself. I didn’t recognize my own strength. Today, I do. I’ve confronted my fears and embraced the sorrowful aspects of my life.
