Actor Patrick Dempsey has been crowned as this year’s Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine. The exciting announcement took place during a segment on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in which audience members posed questions to guess the hidden identity of the Sexiest Man Alive.
When the big reveal came, Dempsey, whose face and voice were concealed, expressed his delight, saying, “I’m just happy they made a decision and that it was me this year,” during his appearance on the show.

Dempsey playfully shared that his family’s initial reaction to the news was one of amusement. He quipped, “They laughed quite hard. They’re like, ‘No, seriously, who is it?'” As for his own response to being named the Sexiest Man Alive, Dempsey admitted in an interview with People magazine that he was “completely shocked” when he first heard the news. He recalled, “And then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid! I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good.”
Patrick Dempsey is most renowned for his portrayal of Dr. Derek Shepherd in the long-running ABC drama “Grey’s Anatomy.” Additionally, he will be starring as Italian race car driver Piero Taruffi in the upcoming “Ferrari” biopic, set to be released in December.
Dempsey assumes the title of Sexiest Man Alive from Chris Evans, the 2022 honoree. When Jimmy Kimmel asked Dempsey if he had received a call from Chris Evans yet to “concede,” Dempsey mentioned that they had not had the opportunity to speak. He humorously added, “I am hoping when I get off stage tonight that I’ll get a call.”
