Chris Pine is reminiscing about a recent fashion moment that garnered attention. The star of “Don’t Worry Darling” found himself in the spotlight defending his choice of attire when a photo of him wearing short shorts circulated online last month.

On October 27, Chris confidently strutted out in a snug, white pair of short shorts, complemented by a mustard yellow hoodie and brown shoes, following a workout class in Los Angeles. When asked about the outfit, he exclusively shared with E! News chief correspondent Keltie Knight during the promotion of his new movie “Wish,” “I don’t think there is anything to defend. It’s called short shorts, isn’t it? It’s supposed to be short.”

Undeterred by any criticism, Chris emphasized his preference for the style, stating, “Corduroy short shorts. I mean, it’s a vibe. It’s the best vibe. It’s like a Tom Selleck vibe. It’s like a ’70s surfer vibe. I prefer that.” Drawing a parallel with iconic athletes, he defended his choice by asking, “It’s like showtime. Lakers—would you rather see them with the short shorts and Magic Johnson looking like a basketball player and athlete rather than wearing some sort of Capri on the floor? No. So, I’ll be wearing the short shorts.”

When questioned about the longevity of his short shorts phase, the “Princess Diaries” alum humorously replied, “Until the legs go,” encouraging fans to look up Tom Selleck for reference.

This isn’t the first time Chris Pine’s appearance has caused a stir online. In July 2022, he underwent a transformation for his film “Poolman,” sporting a full beard and shaggy, long blonde hair. The movie featured him as Darren Barrenman, a character described as a “hapless dreamer and would-be philosopher.”

Currently, Chris is excited about his upcoming role as King Magnifico in the animated Disney film “Wish.” The film, marking Disney’s 100-year anniversary, follows the story of a 17-year-old girl named Asha, played by Ariana DeBose, who makes a wish on a star to save her kingdom from its ruler.

Reflecting on his career, Chris expressed his enthusiasm for being able to talk about a film he’s proud of, especially now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over. He highlighted the significance of Disney’s stories, noting that they are an integral part of childhood and growing into adulthood.

“Wish” is set to hit theaters on November 22.
