Jennifer Lopez is taking control of her narrative and revealing her story on her own terms. The 54-year-old artist has officially announced the release date for her highly anticipated new album, titled “This Is Me… Now.” The album, accompanied by its lead single, “Can’t Get Enough,” and a co-written companion film with her husband, Ben Affleck, is set to launch on February 16, 2024.
In a captivating trailer released on Monday, Lopez sits before a fire in the rain, discarding a letter into the flames. She shares a childhood dream, expressing, “When I was a little girl when someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, my answer was always… in love.” The handwritten letter, dated December 24, 2002, appears to be from Affleck during the early days of their relationship, conveying sentiments of appreciation and love.
“This Is Me… Now: The Film,” directed by Dave Meyers, provides an insider’s look into Lopez’s personal life, offering “the truth” as envisioned by the star herself. Co-written by Lopez, Matt Walton, and Affleck, the film is set to stream on Prime Video. A logline describes it as a “narrative-driven, intimate, reflective, sexy, funny, fantastical, and highly visual musical reimagining” of her scrutinized love life.
Lopez, who has teased the project on Instagram, describes it as a “musical experience” that manifests a life’s journey in search of the truth about love. “This Is Me… Now” is Lopez’s ninth studio album and her first in nearly a decade, commemorating the 20-year journey since her 2002 album, “This Is Me…Then.”
The album, written and executive produced by Lopez and Rogét Chayed, boasts contributions from Angel Lopez, Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman, HitBoy, Tay Keith, and INK, among others. Described as her “most honest and personal” offering to date, the album includes tracks like “Dear Ben Pt. II,” a continuation of the original dedication to Affleck.
Lopez, in an Instagram message last year, expressed that the album is her most honest work, a culmination of her identity as a person and artist. She emphasized that people often misunderstand her journey, and this project serves as a revelation of a hidden side of herself. “This Is Me… Now” promises to be a transformative and intimate exploration of Jennifer Lopez’s life and artistry.
