The music sensation confirmed that her inadvertent disclosure of her sexual orientation occurred during an interview for Variety’s Power of Women issue. She expressed surprise at the revelation’s impact, assuming that her sexuality was already apparent.

Addressing the media at Variety’s Hitmakers event on Saturday, she shared, “I kind of thought, ‘Wasn’t it obvious? I didn’t realize people didn’t know. I just don’t really believe in it. I’m just like, ‘Why can’t we just exist?’ I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I just haven’t talked about it. Whoops.”

In the cover story published on November 13, the artist behind the hit song “Bad Guy” acknowledged her attraction to girls, emphasizing the deep connections she shares with women in her life. She expressed genuine affection, both as individuals and romantically, while admitting to feeling intimidated by their beauty and presence.

Reflecting on the enthusiastic fan response to her candid remarks, she remarked, “I was like, ‘Oh, I guess I came out today.’ Okay, cool. It’s exciting to me because I guess people didn’t know, but it’s cool that they know. I am for the girls.”

Apart from surprising her queer fanbase with the revelation, the artist delved into her own perception of femininity. She admitted struggling to identify as a feminine person, stating, “I’ve never felt like a woman, to be honest with you. I’ve never felt desirable. I’ve never felt feminine. I have to convince myself that I’m, like, a pretty girl. I identify as ‘she/her’ and things like that, but I’ve never really felt like a girl.”

During the Hitmakers event, she was asked if her perspective on other women has changed since coming out. Responding with candor, she admitted, “I’m still scared of them, but I think they’re pretty!”
