Reports say that Jamie Spears, the estranged father of pop star Britney Spears, underwent a leg amputation last month, according to a source in the singer’s hometown of Kentwood, LA. The procedure was deemed a “last resort” after Jamie experienced a severe infection stemming from a knee replacement. Sources reveal that he had undergone multiple unsuccessful surgeries before opting for amputation.
This development comes on the heels of a previous Page Six exclusive, which highlighted Jamie’s serious illness and frequent hospitalizations, including time in a facility for infectious disease patients. Reports from two months ago stated that the 71-year-old had lost over 25 pounds due to health complications arising from a knee replacement in the mid-2000s. Jamie’s lawyer declined to comment on the recent amputation.
In August, insiders dispelled rumors of Britney Spears considering reconciliation with her father amid his health struggles. One source emphasized that Britney, 42, was on a healing journey but ruled out repairing the strained relationship with Jamie.
The singer’s estrangement from her family patriarch traces back to her legal battle to terminate the conservatorship he established in 2008. After Britney accused her father of abuse in open court in 2021, a Los Angeles judge suspended Jamie as conservator, ultimately terminating the guardianship. Britney detailed the 13-year control Jamie had over her life in her recent memoir, “The Woman in Me,” likening her experience to being in a cult with her father as the leader.
In the memoir, Britney also accused Jamie, who has not publicly addressed the claims, of being an alcoholic and forcing her into rehab multiple times while exploiting her success for financial gain. Although Jamie denied any wrongdoing, Britney’s revelations in her bestselling book shed light on their tumultuous relationship.
Notably, Britney had also been estranged from her mother, Lynne Spears, during the conservatorship battle, but the two reconciled earlier this year. Lynne, 68, was recently photographed attending her daughter’s 42nd birthday party. TMZ was the first to report Jamie’s amputation.
