Charlie Sheen has disclosed his decision to undergo neck plastic surgery after disconcerting self-realization while watching himself on television. The 58-year-old actor, who recently appeared in two episodes of Chuck Lorre’s MAX comedy series “Bookie,” expressed dissatisfaction with his appearance during a screening at Warner Bros. studio lot with the show’s cast and crew.
In an interview with Deadline, Sheen, known for his role in “Two and a Half Men,” recounted his focus on a specific physical trait, his neck, after seeing himself on a “giant screen.” Observing his neck resembling a “turkey gobbler,” he promptly decided to take action and contacted a plastic surgeon.
Sheen explained, “I could have stayed upset about it, or I could get right into a solution.” He emphasized the immediacy of his decision, scheduling the surgery just a day after the screening. His motivation, he asserted, was not driven by vanity but a desire to prevent his neck from being distracting to viewers.
Reflecting on his hiatus from the camera for the past decade, Sheen acknowledged the impact on his self-perception, stating, “The last decade, not so friendly.” He humorously mentioned contemplating wearing turtlenecks but opted for surgery, which is scheduled to take place in two weeks.
In addressing the decision openly, Sheen expressed the need to discuss it to dispel the stigma surrounding plastic surgery. He emphasized the absence of implants, clarifying that the procedure aimed to smooth out certain features that bothered him.
The actor’s return to working with Chuck Lorre in “Bookie” marked a significant reunion since his departure from “Two and a Half Men” in 2011. Sheen, fired from the show due to derogatory remarks and personal issues, saw this opportunity as an audition for accountability, responsibility, and professionalism.
During the interview, Sheen highlighted the refreshing experience of reactivating the collaborative dynamic with Lorre. He emphasized Lorre’s minimal notes, allowing performers to express their craft while acknowledging the director’s occasional specific input.
In a broader context, Sheen’s decision to undergo plastic surgery aligns with a family trend, as his daughter Sami Sheen underwent breast augmentation surgery in November. Charlie Sheen’s return to the small screen symbolized a chance for personal and professional redemption, showcasing a renewed commitment to accountability and professionalism.
