In an interview with Variety that was released on Wednesday, Rachel McAdams talked about her choice to decline a recent reunion of the Mean Girls ensemble. The actress, well known for her part in “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” talked about her feelings on the Walmart ad that included actors from Tina Fey’s 2004 film Mean Girls, including Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, Lacey Chabert, and others.
McAdams stated in the interview that she wasn’t excited to be in a commercial since she hadn’t worked on commercials before and thought it wasn’t her style. She said she had no idea that everyone—including Lohan, Seyfried, and Chabert, who are all “Plastics”—was included in the commercial. McAdams mentioned how much she still loves the Mean Girls cast and how much she would like to be a part of a reunion.
Featuring adult versions of the adored North Shore High School characters, the Walmart advertisement, which aired on November 1, skillfully blends Christmas sales with classic Mean Girls sequences. Chabert is seen as a stage mom, Lohan as a guidance counselor, and Seyfried as an ignorant weather reporter. Kevin Gnapoor (Rajiv Surendra) and Damian (Daniel Franzese), two more well-known movie characters, also make cameos.
Even though she chose not to see the commercial, McAdams made it clear that she would be open to doing a Mean Girls movie and that she was excited about the idea. When asked if she and Fey had filmed a cameo for the impending Mean Girls movie musical, McAdams said that they hadn’t, but she was still excited about the direction the movie was taking.
McAdams discussed how her experience as a second-time mother of a daughter led her to assume the position of the “sexy mom” in her critically acclaimed and award-winning performance in “Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret.” She emphasized the significance of tackling parental issues and the difficulties of having uncomfortable conversations about particular subjects with kids.
With her long-term husband Jamie Linden, McAdams has a 5-year-old son. She talked about her excitement for having a girl and the movie’s influence on future generations. On January 12, Paramount Pictures plans to open the Broadway version of Mean Girls in theatres. The cast includes Renée Rapp, Angourie Rice, Busy Philipps, Jon Hamm, Auli’i Cravalho, Ashley Park, and Tina Fey.
