On Tuesday, Jake Gyllenhaal celebrated turning forty-three years old, giving a hint about his next movie. Gyllenhaal thanked his fans and followers on Instagram on Wednesday for their birthday wishes. The post included a photo of Gyllenhaal grinning at a dinner table with goodies, including a half-eaten birthday cake, a lighted candle, and drinks.
Wearing a Patrick Swayze t-shirt in remembrance of the original John Dalton from the 1989 movie “Road House,” Gyllenhaal will be playing the role again in a forthcoming remake. In the updated plot, Gyllenhaal plays a former UFC fighter who works as a bouncer at a rough roadhouse in the Florida Keys. But as the summary puts it, he quickly discovers that the tropical paradise is actually a lie.
Prime Video released two snippets from their 2024 sizzle trailer, giving fans a glimpse of the actor in action and a preview of what to expect from the much-awaited film. The first footage showed off Gyllenhaal’s amazing body as he stood in a ring without a shirt, while the second showed off a thrilling street battle in which he deftly sidestepped blows and established control.
Gyllenhaal made a notable cameo at a UFC event hosted at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in March, and the film’s production got underway in the Dominican Republic in 2022. After taking off a sweatshirt bearing the “UFC” insignia, the actor’s character successfully built up the audience and displayed his toned figure in an online video.
Gyllenhaal flexed his biceps and stood in a moment straight out of a movie, declaring the official weight of Elwood Dalton, his character. His verbal exchange and dramatic slap with MMA world champion Jay Hieron, who plays Dalton’s rival Jack Harris, elevated the moment even more.
Amidst the excitement around the Road House adaptation, UFC star Conor McGregor addressed the audience in the arena and revealed the significance of the scene being recorded for the film. In an earlier statement, Doug Liman, the director of the movie, conveyed his excitement and stated that he was looking forward to working with Jake Gyllenhaal to bring a fresh perspective to the cherished Road House history.
Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Lukas Gauge, Hannah Love Lanier, Travis Van Winkle, B.K. Cannon, Arturo Castro, Dominique Columbus, Beau Knapp, and Bob Menery are among the film’s star-studded ensemble.
