Reese Witherspoon hinted at the possibility of a third season for HBO’s popular drama “Big Little Lies” during her appearance on the Golden Globes red carpet on Sunday. When asked about the show’s future, Witherspoon disclosed, “We are working on it,” while attending the event with her son, Deacon Philippe, as shared with Variety’s Marc Malkin.
Witherspoon went on to mention her active involvement in the project, stating that she has been collaborating extensively with co-star and co-producer Nicole Kidman. However, she refrained from providing specific details about the nature of their work.
These enigmatic statements follow reports that Kidman had previously confirmed the show’s return at an event in November, where she assured the audience, “We will be bringing you a third one,” as seen in videos circulated on social media.
While HBO has not officially confirmed the renewal of “Big Little Lies” for a third season, Witherspoon’s tease on Sunday raises hopes for fans. Notably, CNN and HBO share the same parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery.
“Big Little Lies” made its debut in 2017 with Season 1, followed by Season 2 in 2019. The star-studded cast includes Witherspoon, Kidman, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, and Shailene Woodley, with Meryl Streep joining for the second season. Adapted from Liane Moriarty’s novel, the series revolves around a group of women entangled in the aftermath of a murder within their affluent community.
Meanwhile, Witherspoon has been keeping busy since her time on “Big Little Lies.” She currently stars alongside Jennifer Aniston in AppleTV+’s news-centric series “The Morning Show,” which premiered its third season in September and is nominated for two Globes at the Sunday event.
