Following The Bear‘s win for best comedy series at the 2023 Emmys on Monday night, star Ebon Moss-Bachrach planted a long, sultry kiss on Matty Matheson’s mouth while he was accepting the award.
“I just want to thank restaurants as a whole, hospitality as a whole,” Matheson said. “I just love restaurants so much. The good, the bad, it’s rough. We’re all broken inside, and every single day, we’ve got to show up and cook and make people feel good by eating something and sitting at a table, and it’s really beautiful, and all of us here get to make a show together.
We get to make people feel good or filled with anxiety… But this is really amazing—the beautiful cast and crew. There are so many people that make this show happen every single day, and it’s really beautiful. It’s hard work. It’s early hours, and we haven’t seen the sun for three months. Shooting on a soundstage is really cool. I’ve never been on one before. I’ve never acted before.”
In the press room, Matheson and Moss-Bachrach addressed the passionate moment. “It was nice,” Matheson said.
“It was nice,” agreed Moss-Bachrach. “It was a blur, and I had my eyes closed. I think Matty had his eyes closed, too. Time stopped. I don’t know how many years went by.”
Matheson joined The Bear in 2021. He also serves as a producer on the show. Before that, he ran several restaurants like Cà Phê Rang, Prime Seafood Palace, Rizzo’s House of Parm (named after his daughter, Rizzo), and Fonda Balam. Additionally, he’s been on various food programs such as Vice’s Munchies, Dead Set on Life, and It’s Suppertime, as well as the YouTube series Cookin’ Somethin’ W/Matty Matheson and Stupid F*cking Cooking Show.
Abbott Elementary, Jury Duty, Ted Lasso, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Barry, Wednesday, and Only Murders in the Building were nominated in the category. The Bear won a total of six Emmys on Monday night, including Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Ayo Edebiri and Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Jeremy Allen White. Moss-Bachrach also won Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
