The producers of “Cocaine Bear” might find inspiration for a sequel, as another individual has allegedly been caught utilizing an unconventional method to smuggle cocaine. This time, the scene involves underwater sequences, adding a new twist to the notorious drug trade.
Zacharie Scott found himself in hot water when he was apprehended at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City on Friday. The 22-year-old, a U.S. citizen residing in Guyana, is accused of attempting to smuggle cocaine concealed within bags of frozen jumbo shrimp.
In a rather unusual cover-up, Scott allegedly hid bricks of the drug inside the bags of shrimp, creating a unique blend that would certainly not be featured at any ordinary cocktail party. Federal authorities conducted a field test, revealing traces of cocaine. The total weight of the concealed drugs reportedly exceeded 40 pounds. During questioning, Scott purportedly admitted to agreeing to smuggle the drugs in exchange for cash.
Scott made an appearance in Brooklyn Federal Court on Tuesday to face charges filed by Breon Peace, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York leading the case. He is currently detained pending a bail hearing scheduled for Tuesday. If convicted, Scott could potentially face up to 20 years in prison.
Attempts to obtain a comment from Scott’s attorney have been made, but there has been no response thus far.
Fortunately, the shrimp involved in this peculiar drug-smuggling operation were not alive when the cocaine was concealed within them. Otherwise, the U.S. Coast Guard might have found themselves dealing with a jumbo-sized problem.
