Directed by Lee Eung-Bok, ‘Sweet Home’ is a South Korean drama series that premiered on Netflix on 18 December 2020 and instantly gained a wide fan following. Starring Song Kang, Lee Jin Wook, Lee Shi Young, and many others, ‘Home Sweet’ is based on a manhwa or a digital comic of the same name, created by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-chan. Korean dramas have been eye candy to audiences for the past few years. The industry saw a drastic rise in its viewership, especially in various parts of Asia. The webtoon adaptation managed to amass more than 5 million views Naver, a Korean site.
The story centers around a high school student who suffers from distress after being constantly bullied in school. He loses his family in a car crash and moves into a new apartment. He has no desire to meet his neighbors and ends up never leaving his room. But then suddenly, a series of mysterious and strange things begin to happen in his new place. His neighbor starts turning into monsters and demons, and confronting them might lead to inevitable consequences. The horror genre series portrays a story of the protagonist’s growth. Instead of taking his own life, he tries to save people who have turned into monsters because of greed and begins to change his despondent view towards society.
When the news about the show’s debut broke out, the webtoons’ fans couldn’t hold up their excitement. It was hard for them to wait for their favorite digital comice to be brought to life on the streaming platform. The show currently has only ten episodes in season one, and this has made the fans of the webtoon quite disappointed. Each episode has a run time of about 60 minutes, and it isn’t easy to cover up the happenings of the entire webtoon in it. The original digital comic has around 140 episodes or chapters, and the fans want the creators to adapt it completely with the introduction of various characters and events that follow.
But in the debut season of the show, modifications were made to the plot, and it’s quite unclear whether the fans will get a season 2 of the show or not. But considering the plot that followed in the first season and the statement made by the director himself, maybe we have quite a few chances for a season renewal. In a press conference on 16 December, Eun bok said that he and his team ensured that the Sweet Home series stayed as loyal as possible to the monsters from the Webtoon. He still had to make some changes to the ending and said he would be open to making a second season. He revealed that while they were writing, they completed the end of the storyline themselves, so there are a couple of things that came out after they were done. He further says that if the opportunity arises, the team would want to introduce the monsters they weren’t able to in the first season. So this roughly means that we can expect a season 2 to the show, but until it’s said officially, we can’t make a solid statement for the same.
