What’s New On HBO Max In March 2022?

HBO Max March
HBO Max

HBO Max is coming in hot with its March 2022 release roster. The streaming platform is one of the leaders when it comes to offering premium content. With so many of the major releases of the last year arriving on HBO Max the same time they hit theatres, the library of the streaming platform has only enriched. Some of the big blockbusters from the last year and before are arriving on the streamer this month. However, it’s not just the old ones that we’ll be awaiting this time.

The HBO Max March 2022 releases are rife with some promising tv shows and films. The genres of these projects are also eclectic — ranging from comedy to sci-fi to documentary. Without any further ado, let’s take a comprehensive look at what HBO Max is putting on the table in March. Tread carefully if you don’t wish to spoil yourself on any of the following IPs.

West Side Story/ HBO Max

Our Flag Means Death — HBO Max March 2022/Originals

Loosely based on the life of Stede Bonnet, Our Flag Means Death stars Rhys Darby in the titular role in a period comedy. One of the major attractions of this comedy series is director Taika Waititi. The trailers for the series show the director flexing his acting chops where he brings his usual eccentricities. The story follows Captain Bonnet, an aristocrat who leaves his comfortable life and family to pursue a new career as a pirate.

Set in 1717 during the Golden Age of Piracy, the show sees Bonnet trying to prove himself as a pirate with no knack for it. The failings are what make the story, and there’s hilarity in copious amounts here. We follow him and his crew as they struggle to keep afloat amid a war for survival in the waters. Mark your calendars as the next three episodes of season 1 are arriving on March 10, 2022.

Moonshot

A sci-fi addition to the HBO Max March 2022 catalog, Moonshot stars Cole Sprouse and Lana Condor. Also starring are Zach Braff, Mason Gooding, and Emily Rudd. The official synopsis for the film reads, “In a future where Mars is terraformed and colonized by the best humanity has to offer, two college students wind up joining forces and sneak onboard a space shuttle to the red planet in order to be united with their significant others.”

Mark your calendars for this one if you’re looking for some romance in a sci-fi setting. This is certainly not the only romance flick in the HBO Max March 2022 roster, but it’s one you’d not want to miss if you’re seeking a new original story.

Winning Time — HBO Max March 2022 Releases/Originals

Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty is one of the promising-looking projects coming to HBO Max in March 2022. A sports drama series, Winning Time is a black comedy that’s based on the book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s by Jeff Pearlman.

John C. Riley stars as Jerry Buss, Jason Clarke as Jerry West, and Quincy Isaiah as Magic Johnson. Solomon Hughes stars as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, DeVaughn Nixon as Norm Nixon, and Gaby Hoffmann as Claire Rothman. Hadley Robinson stars as Jeanie Buss, Molly Gordon as Linda Zafrani, and Rob Morgan as Earvin Johnson Sr. Other big names in the cast are Adrien Brody, Gillian Jacobs, Wood Harris, Andy Hirsch, and Mike Epps.

Gaming Wall Street

A two-part docuseries, Gaming Wall Street explores “the historic 2021 short squeeze of GameStop and how a group of armchair investors and online vigilantes helped expose the dark underbelly of Wall Street.” Kieran Culkin of Succession fame narrates the docuseries that premiered on HBO Max on March 3. Part 1 delves into how the investors formed a movement against Wall Street when the brokers turned off the buy button for GameStop. Part 2 follows the all-out war around GameStop wherein the investors come together to hike up the stock price of GameStop.

Dune — HBO Max March 2022 Releases/Already Released

Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic is one of the biggest names in the HBO Max March 2022 roster. The official synopsis reads, “Paul Atreides arrives on Arrakis after his father accepts the stewardship of the dangerous planet. However, chaos ensues after a betrayal as forces clash to control melange, a precious resource.”

The film stars Zendaya, Timothée Chalaney, Oscar Isaac, Stellan Skarsgård, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem, among many other stellar actors. The movie was one of the biggest blockbusters last year. After its simultaneous release on the streaming platform, Dune returns on HBO Max again. Mark the 10th of March on your calendars, folks!

Drive My Car

The huge critical success, Drive My Car follows an aging, widowed actor who seeks a chauffeur. Upon his mechanic’s recommendation, he decides on a 20-year-old girl. The two get on with a rough start but slowly form a special bond as the actor directs a multilingual production of Uncle Vanya whole also contending with his wife’s death. The film stars Hidetoshi Nishijima, Tōko Miura, Reika Kirishima, Park Yu-rim, Jin Dae-Yeon, Sonia Yuan, Ahn Hwitae, Perry Dizon, Satoko Abe, and Masaki Okada. Drive My Car premiered on the streamer on March 2.

West Side Story — HBO Max March 2022 Releases/Movies

Making its premiere on the same day as Drive My Car, Steven Spielberg’s musical masterpiece also graced HBO Max in March 2022. This one speaks for itself, with a name like Spielberg behind it, there’s nothing more to add. However, if you’re having doubts, rest assured. The consensus on the film and the review sites are all replete with nothing but great reviews. Go for this one with confidence, and get ready to shake some serious legs!

King Richard

Delivering a mind-blowing performance, Will Smith stars in the lead role in this sports drama. The film follows Richard Williams as he embarks on a mission to write his daughters, Venus and Serena, into history. The official synopsis reads, “Training on tennis courts in Compton, Calif., Richard shapes the girls’ unyielding commitment and keen intuition.” We see the Smith family defeat obstacles and overcome numerous odds to get out on top. Already in line to win several Oscars, the film should be at the top of your list this month.
