Beastars is a Japanese manga series that was written and illustrated by Paru Itagaki. It ran on Weekly Shonen Champion from September 2016 to October 2020. It was adapted into an anime series produced by Orange on Netflix in March 2020. Beastars Season 2 was announced back in November with a trailer. This anime is one of the Netflix originals. As for the plot, Beastars takes place in a world filled with anthropomorphic animals behaving as modern civilized humans, where there is a cultural divide between the herbivores and carnivores.
The protagonist of this story is Legosi, who is a shy student studying at Cherryton Academy, where he lives in a dorm with other carnivorous students and his labrador best friend, Jack. As part of the drama club, Legosi works as a stagehand, and he supports the actors of the club, which is lead by star student Louis, a red deer. He attempts to hide his terrifying traits so that he could be more in touch with his herbivorous classmates and fit in with them, but in vain.
One night, Tem the alpaca is murdered and devoured, causing a rift between the herbivores and the carnivores, and Legosi takes it upon himself to solve the murder. At the same time, he meets Louis’s secret girlfriend Haru, a white rabbit, and ends up developing complex feelings towards her.
Recap of the Season 1 finale
The lion mafia Shishigumi had Haru kidnapped so that their boss would eat her. Legosi defeats the boss in a bloody fight in order to save her, and as he and Haru leave the hideout, the boss tries to kill Legosi but is instead killed by Louis, who is then cornered by other members, leaving his fate unknown. Legosi confesses to Haru that it was him who attacked her at the fountain at night and apologized to her, but Haru forgives him because she began to like him for his kind nature.
Legosi is applauded for his bravery in saving a herbivore by his school, and Juno lights a candle with him to signify their relationship, but Legosi looks for Haru, who left believing that Juno is better than her for him. Legosi finds her and explains his feelings to her and will need some time to think about it, and Haru will have to wait. Suddenly, Legosi is approached by an unknown figure, who then smiles at him.
