Born in California in 1988, he hails from a family with strong sports ties, as his father is none other than NBA legend Jerry West. Alongside his brother Ryan, Jonnie also has three half-brothers from his father’s first marriage, bringing the total to four siblings.
Having played collegiate basketball himself, Jonnie showcased his athletic talents at West Virginia University, where he competed for four years. He made appearances in four NCAA tournaments, culminating in a trip to the Final Four in 2010. Throughout his college career, he earned a degree in sports management and an MBA in business administration.
Professionally, Jonnie has carved out a successful career with the Golden State Warriors, where he has worked since October 2012. In his current role as director of pro personnel, which he has held since October 2021, he has also been involved in various capacities, including director of basketball operations and scout. Additionally, he served as the associate general manager for the Santa Cruz Warriors, the Warriors’ minor league affiliate, from 2014 to 2016.
The couple’s love story began through their mutual friends. On the Studio 22 podcast in 2022, Michelle shared that her connection with Jonnie was facilitated by fellow golfer Justin Thomas, who knew both of them. “It’s a small world, and everything fell into place perfectly,” Michelle commented.
