The year 2020 is one which has affected everyone and everything in some way or another. Unpredictable as it was, it involved shutting down of educational institutions, sports, travel, and whatnot. Even the Cinema Industry had to deal with a massive dent in it due to the restrictions that came with the lockdowns. These led to delays and breaks in shoots, dubbings, editing, foley recordings, etc. Having only a handful of movies released this year, we are only a week away from 2021, and the movie studios have announced their titles, which will be coming out next year.

Here are 10 of them you should definitely check out:

The Little Things

Release Date: January 27, 2021

Cast: Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, Jared Leto

Joe “Deke” Deacon, the Deputy Sheriff of Kern County, has been sent on as an assignment to Los-Angeles to gather some evidence. But instead, he starts getting involved in the search for a serial killer who has been terrorizing the city. When L.A. Sheriff Department Sergeant Jim Baxter meets Deke, he is impressed by his cop instincts and unofficially engages his help. In their pursuit of the killer, Baxter is unaware that the case has been dredging up echoes of Deke’s past, which could turn out to be worse than the case itself.

 

Judas and the Black Messiah

Release Date: February 12, 2021

Cast: Daniel Kaluuya, LaKeith Stanfield, Dominique Fishback, Jesse Plemons

Set in the late 1960s of Illinois, Jesus and the Black Messiah is a story based on the actual life of Fred Hampton, the chairman of the Black Panther Party, and how he was betrayed by fateful Willaim O’Neal. Willaim O’Neal was a petty criminal in Chicago who was caught by FBI agent Roy Mitchell when he was 17 years old. In exchange for having his felony charges dropped, O’Neal agreed to infiltrate the Black Panther Party as an informant. Despite being only a teenager, he quickly rose the ranks and was among the heads of Fred Hampton’s security ideal for gaining Intel.

 

Tom and Jerry

Release Date: March 5, 2021

Cast: Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Pena, Colin Jost

After demolishing his owner’s home, thanks to his clumsiness, Tom is disowned by his owners. So, Tom and Jerry, both having no place to stay, bid farewell to one another and finally go their separate ways. But that wasn’t the end as their fates collide once again when Jerry takes residence in a hotel in Manhattan. Meanwhile, Tom is hired by Miss Kayla, who works in the hotel to get rid of Jerry. She was in charge of the wedding of the century at the hotel and wanted everything in control, but their cat and mouse chase are doomed to wreak havoc again. In a twist of events, Kayla, Tom, and Jerry find out terrible information regarding the wedding and are bound to put aside their differences for the greater good.

 

No Time to Die

Release Date: April 2, 2021

Cast: Daniel Craig, Lashana Lynch, Rami Malek, Léa Seydoux

Five years after capturing supervillain Ernst Stavro Blofeld, James Bond has finally left active service. But, this doesn’t last long as he receives a letter from his old friend Felix Leiter, a CIA agent who we are introduced to back in Casino Royale. He has come to enlist James Bond’s help in the search for a missing scientist, Valdo Obruchev. While tracking him down, it becomes clear that he has been abducted, and Bond must face a terrorist whose plot could see the death of millions.

Mortal Kombat

Release Date: April 16, 2021

Cast: Ludi Lin, Jessica McNamee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano

Based on the video game series, Mortal Kombat is an upcoming martial arts fantasy action movie. Much similar to the games, “Mortal Kombat” is a mysterious intergalactic tournament of martial arts in which Shaolin Monk Liu Kang gets invited from the earth realm as a competitor. To the disappointment of the viewers, no hard plot details have been revealed. But we can go on a whim and say that the tournament will lead the fighters into a battle to prevent some catastrophe befalling the Earth, such as an incursion by Outworld Emperor Shao Khan. This is the usual format of the game, which the movie will remain faithful to, ensured by the screenwriter “Greg Russo.”

 

Black Widow

Release Date: May 7, 2021

After the fallout due to the events which took place in Captain America: Civil War, Natasha Romanoff is left alone to confront her mistakes from the past. Being given to the KGB at birth, she became their operative soon after. But when the USSR broke up, the Government tries to take her down. Pursued by an unstoppable force, Natasha must deal with broken relationships and mistakes she left behind before she joined the Avengers.

 

Free Guy

Release Date: May 21, 2021

Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Taika Waititi, Jodie Comer, Joe Keery

Guy is a bank teller in the Free City. Thanks to a program developed by programmers Milly and Keys inserted into Free City by the publisher Antoine, Guy becomes aware of him being a background character in a violent open-world video game. Realizing that he is actually a non-player character (NPC), he questions his existence and takes steps to make himself the hero, creating a race against time to save the game before the developers can shut it down.

 

The Suicide Squad

Release Date: August 6, 2021

Cast: Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, John Cena, Pete Davidson

The tenth installment in the DC Extended Universe and a soft reboot of the 2016 film “Suicide Squad,” “The Suicide Squad” is the story of a team of anti-heroes who are picked and assigned tasks by one, Amanda Waller. This time the “Task Force X” is filled with both old and new members and is sent on a new, sentence-easing mission to the South-American island of Corto Maltese. Their task is to destroy Jotunheim, which was a prison and laboratory way back in the Nazi-era. This place was known to hold political prisoners and conduct experiments on them.

Death on the Nile

Release Date: September 17, 2021

Cast: Kenneth Branagh, Gal Gadot, Emma Mackey, Armie Hammer

Remake of the 1978 film and set in the 1930s, Death on the Nile is based on the book by Agatha Christie. The temporarily existent tranquillity and peace on S.S. Karnak, a streamer boat sailing down the River Nile in Africa, are destroyed when one of the passengers is found murdered. Fortunately, Renowned Belgian Detective Hercule Poirot is present on board and is entrusted with the task to identify the culprit and prevent further causalities. The task seems tough as the streamer boat is filled with characters all having their ominous secrets to hide. But as he goes deeper into his investigation in identifying suspects, they all meet their demise only to deepen the mystery of the killer’s identity.

 

Dune

Release Date: October 1, 2021

Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa

Dune is a sci-fi film based on the book of the same name by Frank Herbert. Based on the far future of humanity, the story revolves around one Leto Atreides, who takes upon the stewardship of planet Arrakis, aka Dune. The planet is the only source of the ‘spice mélange,’ which is known to give one power, including the extension of human life, super thinking ability, and makes faster than light travel possible. Knowing this opportunity is a trap; he takes concubine Lady Jessica and his heir, Paul, to Arrakis. Living on a harsh and inhospitable planet with the presence of giant sandworms, a bitter betrayal leads Paul and Jessica to the Fremen, natives of Arrakis.
