Swamp Thing Season 2: Any Chances of Renewal?

Swamp Things Season 2

In the world of Show-Biz, a show or a movie needs to impress both critics and audience and turn them into its fans to get Swamp Thing Season 2. Easy for the Dc show Swamp Things, the show produced by Warner Brothers for the DC streaming platform. This show quickly made its cult followers from the very first day it aired.

Unfortunately for the fans, both DC and Warner Bros together announced that there wouldn’t be any second season for the show. The announcement came just after the first episode of the show aired. All the hopes died when DC announced that DC Universe, DC’s streaming platform where the show aired, is closing down. But the ray of hope falls to the swamp when CW Network made a contract to get the Swamp things streaming rights for their Television Channel. In this article, we will be looking at the reasons for the show’s cancellation and seeing any possibility for the show’s come back for another season.

What was happening in the Swamp till now?

Swamp Things’ story revolves around Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed), A CDC researcher who has recently returned to her home in Lousiana. The purpose of her revisit is to investigate a deadly, Swamp born virus. She forms a bond with scientist Alec Holland (Andy Bean), but he was taken from her. The loss of ALec was tragic for Abby. Abby discovers that the swamp has mystical properties, making her believe that the love of her life wasn’t dead at all.

The show had a star cast of Virginia Madsen, Crystal Reed, Andy Bean, Kevin Durand, Derek Mears, and Will Patton as the titular comic book characters. The series was made taking inspiration from Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing and was developed by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman. The show’s cancellation was unexpected for the fans, and they were left out with any questions regarding the series unanswered.

Why was the Swamp Thing Season 2 canceled?

It is still unclear why Swamp Things was canceled. As we have said before, the show was critically appreciated and made a strong fanbase. The show had only started, which means it still hasn’t finished its material yet; this was said because, initially, the producers had planned 3 seasons for this series. So why was this show canceled?

The main reason, which the fans believe to be is because of its high production budget. To give you an idea about how much extremely costly it was, the one set for the series, let alone cost a whopping $2 million! The show budget was initially set to $16.9 million and ended up to a ballooning  $85 million!! This heavy budget, which was more than many films, made the production house cut down the 13 episodes season one to just 10. So the budget may have been a reason for axing the continuity of the series.

Any chance for the Swamp Thing to make a comeback?

The new hopes for the show to be renewed rose when CW President Mark Pedowitz said that he is not ruling out the possibility of making a comeback. The show had a pretty great audience for watching it through CW. This makes the executives think about the Swamp Thing Season 2. But it does have some challenges.

The biggest is with the huge production budget. Remember about the set that cost $2 million? This was made for both seasons 2 and 3, but this set was dismantled recently. This, along with the cast members who have entered other works, also reduces the chance for a second season. If CW successfully overcomes these barriers, then there is a ray of hope for the Swamp Thing to make a comeback.
