Season 2 of Criminal Justice was released on 24th December and has managed to be a gripping legal drama with an exceptional cast. After the debut season of Criminal Justice came out in 2019, starring Vikrant Massey, Pankaj Tripathi, Jacky Shroff, and many others, the speculations had been doing the rounds whether the show will come up with a new season or not. The much-anticipated show did come with a new season and a different plot and the issues that follow this season.
What was the Season 1 about?
The initial season was an adaptation of Peter Moffat’s series titled as the same. The first season revolved around the life of an MBA student Aditya, who happened to have been trapped in a murder charge of an unknown girl, he spent the night with. But this sounds like a pretty simple plot. No. The main point that stretches the story and manages to be a roller coaster ride is he doesn’t remember what the night followed. Meanwhile, Madhav Mishra, a notorious and corrupt lawyer, takes up his case and tries to follow the trails that might lead him to the truth. So the question whose answer the season revealed was, Was he guilty of the death? Or did someone else try to frame him? Well, if you haven’t watched season one of the show, do binge-watch it before you delve into its second season.
Is Season 2 a follow-up?
Season 2 of the show is somewhat a follow-up of the initial season as it centers around the same characters except for Aditya, who is replaced by a new character Anuradha Chandra and her case. The show portrays the happy life of the Chandras. Bikram Chandra is a renowned lawyer who shares a happy life with his wife Anuradha and a twelve-year-old daughter. But the plot unfolds when one night Anuradha stabs him and is seen walking around in a blood-drenched dress. She ended up confessing the same- “I stabbed him,” and the prosecution thinks it’s clearly an open and shut case. Since Bikram Chandra was a highly reputed lawyer, no other lawyer is willing to take up the case in defense of Anuradha. But we’re introduced to Madhav Mishra, who takes up an unusual once again owing to the well to do the financial status of the Chandras.
But he’s unaware of the reality that beholds. Anuradha is adamant about her confession, and Madhav has to convince her to tell him all the sides of the story that made her take his husband’s life. The series will not be a mysterious story following “who did it?”; instead, it will be the one following “why did she do it?”
The show starring Pankaj Tripathi, Kirti Kulhari, and Anupriya Goenka is gripping and follows a plot that describes the fragile story of helpless women and innumerable more like her. It makes us understand what women go through and how the flawed Justice System of India adds more to their suffering. A guilty man can get away with a crime against a woman, but will a woman ever be given a chance to justify the same? Will she be heard? Binge watch the eight-episode long legal drama with an emotional story by the protagonist Anuradha and bits of quirkiness that Madhav Mishra’s character offers. The show is available on Disney+ Hotstar under the VIP membership.
