The Gorge Ending Explained: What Happens in the Movie?

The Gorge, starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, has captured viewers’ attention with its mix of action, science fiction, and romance. The movie explores intriguing ideas about a world that is at risk of facing a disaster if something from the gorge at the heart of the story escapes.

The latest Apple TV+ show has something for everyone. It offers action for fans of that genre, plenty of conspiracy theories for those who enjoy thrillers, and monsters for those who want to watch creepy creatures try to take over the heroes.

The Gorge unfolds in three parts. First, the heroes, played by Miles Teller as Levi and Anya Taylor-Joy as Drasa, are introduced. They are skilled snipers from different parts of the world who watch over opposite sides of the gorge.

In the second part, the two begin by simply doing their jobs, but their curiosity about the person on the other side of the gorge grows. Eventually, they form a romantic relationship. In the third part, Drasa and Levi uncover the truth about the gorge and work together to find a way to handle it.

Plot of the Movie

After Drasa and Levi are hired by a group responsible for protecting the gorge, they quickly realize that they are the only ones standing between the rest of the world and the area that holds the Hollow Men. Levi is told by the man he’s replacing that he will be there for a full year.

He is also given information about the weapons in place to keep the creatures, which can be heard screaming at night when everything else is silent, and contained.

However, after Levi’s predecessor forms a relationship with members of the group that hired everyone, he is executed. This shows that the group is serious about preventing the story of The Gorge from getting out.

Soon, Levi is left alone. He is told that, as the person guarding the West tower, he is never to make contact with the person guarding the East tower. At first, Levi follows this rule, but it all changes when Drasa decides to celebrate her birthday and reach out to the only other person within hundreds of miles from her.

The two soon decide that they want to be more than just friends after exchanging notes through their long-range binoculars and working together to fight the monsters that occasionally climb the walls of the gorge. Levi ziplines over to Drasa at the East tower for a date, and they get along well.

However, after a great date, things take a turn when Levi is ziplining back to his side of the gorge. The Hollow Men make another attempt to break through, triggering automated mines that cut the zipline, sending Levi into the area they’ve been warned no one ever comes back from.

Taylor-Joy’s character reacts instinctively and parachutes into the gorge to save Levi. The two then decide they need to fight their way back out, knowing there must be a way in and out that doesn’t involve climbing, since whole battalions of cavalry were once sent in. As they fight through creatures and Hollow Men, the two guards uncover the truth about what the gorge really is and why they are there.

A company named Dark Lake has been conducting genetic testing on a chemical compound they created, which mutates everything it touches. While dealing with the possibility that they may have been infected, Levi and Drasa decide they need to find a way to stop Dark Lake from continuing their experiments.

How does the move end?

Dark Lake soon discovers that Drasa and Levi went into the gorge, and the woman who hired them both (Sigourney Weaver) leads a strike team to kill the two guards and take control of the situation.

However, the two military veterans and snipers for hire knew the company would try to take them out, so they set up explosives around the failsafe security.

After the company attempts to kill Levi, he and Drasa use their sniper skills to trigger the explosives from a distance. This starts a countdown to set off the nuclear bomb hidden in the gorge, meant to wipe everything out if needed.

The bomb goes off, destroying the Hollow Men and the chemical that created them. The explosion also catches Weaver’s character, Bartholomew, and her crew, killing them and removing the only people who knew Levi and Drasa were there.

The movie ends with both mercenaries finding each other at a restaurant, following the plan that Levi wrote in a note, in case they both survived. This gives The Gorge a true Valentine’s romance ending.
