Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky are spending another year apart, but divorce is not something they’ve discussed yet. The couple, who have been separated since the summer of 2023, have not had a conversation about divorce, according to Kyle.

The mother of four appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on December 17 and explained why they haven’t talked about it. “It just hasn’t come up yet,” she said in the video above.

“We’re good friends, we get along really well, and I don’t know, we just live separate lives and it just hasn’t come up yet,” she continued. “When the time comes, we will address it.”

Kyle also told host Andy Cohen that she’s “not psyched” to have that conversation with her husband of over 20 years. “It’s hard, and it’s not something either one of us feel comfortable initiating, we just kind of let it go and just really good friends, and we care about each other, and we get along, so it is what it is right now,” she said.

Kyle talked to her cast member Sutton Stracke, who encouraged her to file for divorce. However, during The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills After Show, Kyle explained why she didn’t take Sutton’s advice. “At the end of the day, I have to do what feels right for me,” she said. “And I did not feel ready to go do that, and I’ll know when it’s time to do that.”

She added that her situation is different from Sutton’s divorce. “People don’t know our relationship, and I trust him,” Kyle said. “And I know, for women who have been burned, they’re coming from a place of, ‘I don’t want what happened to you to happen to me.’

While I appreciate it, my situation’s, you know — I have to live for what I’m going through and not take on all of that, too.”

Sutton then explained on the RHOBH After Show that she advised Kyle to file so she could act before Mauricio did. “I got a bit bamboozled with my ex-husband,” she said. “So, I wanted to impart my wisdom to my friend who I’m seeing go through this very strange separation, in my eyes, and I want to tell her, ‘Look, just file.’ I want her to do it first before he does it to her.”

Kyle Richards talked about whether The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills affected her relationship with Mauricio Umansky and what caused the end of their nearly 30-year marriage.

“Every situation, every marriage is different. For us, it had nothing to do with the show. We did the show together for many years, and we were fine through it … I was very happily married. The show did not affect us in that way at all,” Richards said.

She mentioned that Umansky, a real estate broker and the father of her children, was always “very supportive” and someone she could rely on during tough times. However, it was “the money and the attention that comes with fame” that affected their marriage.

Looking back to the early years of her marriage, before she became a reality TV star and when Umansky’s real estate business, The Agency, was just starting, Richards reminded people that she and her husband “started out with nothing.”

“I had three kids and a two-bedroom apartment,” she shared, calling those early days “some of the best times” of their life.

With money and fame came new opportunities and challenges for them. “It opens up a whole other world, you know. You’re traveling, you’re going places, he’s getting attention that he didn’t get before, there’s more people looking at him all of a sudden. He’s a rich man … it’s a very different situation,” she explained. She added that Umansky was “a great husband” and “a great dad,” which made him even more appealing to others.

“Just having that thrown in your face all the time, and of course, me being busy and traveling, I think all of that just did not help,” Richards said, referring to their separation in July 2023.

Richards admitted that she might have held on too tightly to their marriage and family out of fear of losing it. “Honestly, it was just a fear of mine,” she confessed. “Holding on too tight because I was so afraid something would ruin and take away what I love so much and [what] I’d built.”

She continued, “[The] next thing you know, you’re like, ‘Wait, what happened to the things that we used to live by before?’ It’s just, everything’s different now.”

Their lives changed with the success of The Real Housewives and Umansky’s growing real estate business, which made things they used to do more difficult.

In one example, Richards explained that she sometimes wanted to join Umansky for work events but couldn’t because of RHOBH fans and photographers. Other times, she couldn’t join him on work trips due to filming commitments or watching the kids.

“So, there were little things like that,” Richards said. “Just not making our marriage a priority because there were so many things going on.”

While Richards has faced criticism for not sharing much about her personal life in seasons 13 and 14, she said that she enjoys being open and finds it therapeutic. However, she chose to keep some things private for the sake of her family.

“I am very open and I’m happy to share about myself. In fact, I find it therapeutic. But there’s certain things that either my kids didn’t want me to say… at the end of the day, I have to think about that stuff too.”
