Doona! centers on Doo-na, who quits her job as the leader of the famous K-pop girl group Dream Sweet. She ends up living in a shared house close to a university and meets a regular student named Won-jun.
The drama, which has only nine episodes, explores Doo-na’s loneliness and the truth behind her fame and career.
At the same time, Won-jun is a regular guy trying to study hard and make it through college so he can take care of himself and his family. The two become important to each other, with Doo-na finding support in him, finally having a place to feel at home and loved for who she truly is.
The Netflix drama takes viewers on an emotional ride, filled with tears, real-life struggles, and even heartbreak. As Doo-na and Won-jun fall in love, their different lives start to create problems, and the ending leaves their relationship uncertain.
Does Doona!’s ending show Won-jun and Doo-na living happily ever after?
The ending of the Doona! K-drama doesn’t give a clear answer, with many viewers guessing that the finale was left open-ended to leave people wondering whether Doo-na and Won-jun broke up for good or are still secretly together.
By Episode 6, the two start dating and stay together for a while. They seem happy, but Doo-na is still troubled by the sudden decision to leave Dream Sweet.
In Episode 8, things take a big turn. While Doo-na has been living the way she wanted since stepping away from the spotlight, she realizes it’s hard to escape her past. Things get worse when Park In-wook (Lee Jin-wook) sues her for financial damages she can’t afford.

When Won-jun visits her, he notices In-wook is there and confronts him, asking him to let them live their lives. However, Won-jun quickly realizes that In-wook has gained control over Doo-na once again. By Episode 9, Won-jun and Doo-na are no longer close.
She has gone back to her career, but now as a solo artist, while Won-jun continues his studies. It’s clear they are both struggling to deal with living in two different worlds. When they meet for dinner, Won-jun breaks her heart by saying that they can’t be together anymore.
She is upset because she feels like he’s given up on her like everyone else, even though she never gave up on him.
Four years later, everyone has moved on. Doo-na is successful as a solo artist, and Won-jun is still studying. The former housemates gather for one last meal together, but Doo-na is not there. Won-jun later returns to the house to get his things and finds her there. They share a drink like strangers before she goes back to her empty apartment.
Angry, Doo-na confronts Won-jun in his dorm. She tells him that she is finally happy with who she is, but she begs him to apologize for leaving her and to tell her he regrets it. Won-jun apologizes, confirming that he never stopped loving her.
The drama then jumps ahead to Won-jun passing his civil service exam with the highest score. Doo-na’s career is still going well. The last scene shows both of them in Japan at a shopping center.
They never cross paths, but Doo-na looks back at him as he walks away. The ending of Doona! leaves their relationship open to interpretation. Did they break up for good, knowing they were each other’s support, and move on with their lives? Or are they secretly dating because of Doo-na’s career and happy?

Doona! Episode 9 gave a clue
The first scene after the intro of Doona! Episode 9 shows Doo-na and Won-jun meeting in a field.
While fans may feel sad about the bittersweet ending of Doona!, there’s still more to think about and look forward to. Looking back at the beginning of the episode, viewers see Doo-na and Won-jun meeting in a pink field. This scene doesn’t come up again during the episode, and it isn’t explained.
However, it’s clear that this scene must take place after Won-jun passed his exam. In the scene, Won-jun looks older and is wearing a beige trench coat, just like he did in Japan. It’s also likely that he’s wearing the same suit and tie. But Doo-na is wearing a different outfit compared to the lace Prada she wore at the shopping center.
If we believe the idea that there’s more to their story, it might suggest that the two met again to fix their relationship or that they never broke up. After all, Won-jun seems to have a knowing smile when he looks at Doo-na.
To support this idea, Episode 8 shows Won-jun in the same outfit crossing the street after a train passes. Episode 7 shows Doo-na in another outfit crossing the same street, and both scenes happen in Japan based on the writing around them.
At the start of Episode 7, the scene shows both of them facing each other across the train tracks. There are also small scenes showing them together at the beach, and Doo-na is wearing the same outfit as in the field scene on the train. It’s possible that Won-jun and Doo-na kept their relationship a secret.
