A Discovery of Witches is a fantasy television show based on the All Souls trilogy. Written by Deborah Harkness, the show is named after the first book in the series. It is produced by Bad Wolf and Sky Productions and was first premiered on 14 September 2018 on Sky One. Only months after, in November 2018, the show got renewed for a second and third season.
The series is set in a magical world in crisis, as the Witches, Vampires and Demons were in decline on Earth. The witches were losing their powers, and vampires were unable to sire other vampires while the demons were being restricted. All these rules and restrictions were brought upon by a group called The Congregation. This group consisted of nine members – three witches, three vampires and three demons.
A Discovery of Witches Season 1 Recap
The series follows the story of Dr. Diana Bishop, who was born to witches but was orphaned as a child. She spent her life avoiding magic, while any magic she did have, she wasn’t able to control it. Now all grown up, she has become a historian, and her study has brought her to the Bodleian Library. Where she unexpectedly discovers a sought-after manuscript which is said to contain secrets on vampire creation. As she tries to understand its contents, she gets forced back into the world of magic. During this journey, she is offered help by a mysterious geneticist, Matthew Clairmont, who is a vampire. They form an unlikely alliance despite the long-held mistrust and prejudice between witches and vampires. Both of them set out to protect the manuscript and solving its mysteries. At the same time, avoiding the threats imposed by the magical creature world.
By the end of Season one, Diana and Matthew break the sacred covenant, which forbade interspecies relationships. Having mated with one another, they had performed a transgression. Diana even realizes that she was mighty as a child, but in order to protect her, her parents spellbound her. When she finally starts to learn how to use her magic, Diana and Matthew were forced to hide as the three witches were planning on punishing them for their interspecies transgression. To escape this chase, Diana makes use of her magic to ‘Time Walk’ back to Elizabethan England.

When is Season 2 Episode 1 Premiering?
Season 2 of “A Discovery of Witches,” along with Season 3, was renewed back in November 2018 by Sky TV. The second season is scheduled to premiere on 8th January 2021. This season will consist of 10 episodes and will come out every week. Season 2 will be available to watch on Sky One, Shudder, Amazon Prime Video, Sony Liv, and Sundance Now.
A Discovery of Witches Season 2 Episode 1 Preview
Season 2 picks up where the story ended at Season 1. As Diana and Matthew go back to Elizabethan London, they take refuge. They must find a powerful witch of that time to help Diana get control over her powers. The duo must even search for the elusive Book of Life. In this season, we will meet several new characters, such as Philippe De Clermont and Goody Alsop. We will even see the relationship dynamic between Diana and Matthew change due to events to take place in the future.
