Army of the Dead is an upcoming zombie apocalypse heist film. It is directed by Zack Snyder, who has also directed movies such as Dawn of the Dead. The cast of the Army of the Dead includes Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana de la Requera, Garret Dillahund, Raul Castillo, Omari Hardwick, Tig Notaro, Nora Arnezeder, Matthias Schweighöfer, Samantha Win, Theo Rossi, Huma Qureshi, Hiroyuki Sanada, Richard Cetrone, Michael Cassidy, Chelsea Edmundson, and Steve Corona. The plot of the movie is about a group of military mercenaries who take advantage of the zombie apocalypse to plan out a heist.
The project was announced way back in June 2008, but it has been on a development hell for years before Netflix acquired the rights to the film and Zack Snyder returned to the series as the director. The filming actually started in 2019. The production started in New Mexico between August and October. The production was mostly done in Alburquerque Studios, Santa Fe Studios, and outside locations around Mexico. It has also filmed mostly in Los Angeles and Las Vegas as well. Dave Bautista at first rejected the film but later was interested in the movie and decided to join.

Later, Tig Notaro replaced Chris D’Eila after the latter was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women. She shot her scenes in front of a green screen, and there was the technology used to replace the former actor. Snyder said that it was the right thing to do for humanity and decency. It is even the right choice as Notaro is one of the most beloved comedians in the world, and she appeared in movies and tv shows such as One Mississippi and Star Trek Discovery. So it is safe to say that her replacing D’Eila will be a blessing.
It has also planned a prequel movie and an anime series that stars Joe Manganiello, Christian Slater, Vanessa Hudgens, Ross Butler, Anya Chalotra, Jenna Malone, and Nolan North. It is also said to have a lot of political overtones in the movie. The movie is rumored to be a sequel to the Dawn of the Dead remake, but it is unknown whether or not it is true. It is even said to have used 90% of practical zombie effects to make it look more real.
Snyder even said that the action sequences would be more fun and exciting, and he will be working with his long-time collaborator Damon Caro who has worked with him in movies such as 300, Suckerpunch, and many more. So it seems like the special effects in that movie will be more spectacular and realistic. Zack Snyder was also the cinematographer of his own movie using the Red Digital Cinema cameras.
At first, it seemed like Army of the Dead was gonna release on Netflix in 2020 as the filming had finished around 2019, but due to multiple reshoots and the current pandemic situation, the movie is now going to come out in 2021.
