With the entertainment industry being surrounded by tons of usual mainstream Bollywood movies, Vineet Kumar Singh’s upcoming film titled ‘Aadhaar’ comes as a wave of fresh air for the cinema fans. The release date of the ‘Aadhaar’ has been made official by the team after they dropped the trailer of the film today. The gripping storyline, set in a small village in India, seems relatable and takes us back to the time when the unique authentication number was initially introduced in India. It also makes us remember how people were trapped in a dilemma and were unsure about the legitimacy of the ‘Aadhaar Card.’ People felt that the documentation was just a way issued by the government to trace and keep an eye on each citizen of the country.
The film is set in a rural village of Jharkhand, in India. It begins with the villagers being excited, for they believe ‘Chulbul Pandey’ aka actor ‘Salman Khan’ has come to visit them. We then come across the protagonist of the story, Pharshua, who too, on being insisted by an elderly, goes to meet the actor. But there’s no film star waiting for them. But instead of Salman Khan, there are two government officials who have visited the village to make the people aware of a new way of documentation and how it would benefit them.
These particular scenes where the officials try to make the villagers understand the importance of a new identity proof have been represented in a sarcastic and humorous way. The villagers suspect this way of authentication and choose not to opt for it. But Pharshua becomes the first person in the village to enroll himself for the ‘Aadhaar Card,’ and the officials use him as an example to convince the other villagers too.
The people of the village are not persuaded by the officials and question the new way of authentication. They feel that a number isn’t powerful enough to make any changes to their lives. But soon after Pharshua receives his Aadhaar card, an astrologer in his village tells him that the number on his card would bring him bad luck and would be a reason for his wife’s death if he doesn’t get it changed. Pharshua becomes anxious and travels to Ranchi to get his aadhaar card’s number changed. He tries to meet all the officials and pleads with them to help him prevent the evitable. However, his pleas go unheard, and he comes across utter ignorance from all the government offices he has visited.

The film isn’t very deep or very logical but portrays a relatable storyline. Being superstitious for the ones you love is something a majority of us have been at some point in our lives. An uneducated man who opts for a new way of authentication issued by the government is taken aback when he senses that ‘Aadhaar Card’ can bring ill fate to his wife. A journey of a common man from place to place to make sure his wife is safe is poignant and stirring.
The film stars Vineet Kumar Singh, Ekavali Khanna, Prithvi Hatte, Sanjay Mishra, Saurabh Shukla, Alka Amin, and various others in prominent roles. Produced by Manish Mundra, the film has already been premiered at the 24th Busan International Film Festival. It was initially scheduled to have released in December 2020, but now the film is set to hit the theatres on 5 February 2021.
