‘Tandav’, the political drama that made its way on the online streaming platform a couple of days ago, has proved its mettle by delivering a powerful story, portrayed by a set of influential cast. Starring prominent names from the entertainment industry, ‘Tandav’ has been in the limelight not just because of the content it depicts but also for some scenes that have brutally offended some portion of the audiences and hurt religious communities. FIR has been filed against the cast and crew of the show in Lucknow, and various protests against the show have been initiated by the public.
What element in the series is responsible for the public outbreak?
Well, there’s a scene in the series where Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub plays Lord Shiva in a stage play, and as per his dialogue days, “Azaadi, what the…?” Following this are some references of Lord Shiva and Lord Rama that are made by the cast and the audiences, as well as some political figures who feel that Hindu deities have been ridiculed immensely in the series.
It isn’t the first time that a series with a minute scene has resulted in such a public outburst. Shows and films like ‘Paatal Lok’, ‘A Suitable Boy’, ‘Padmavat’, ‘PK’ have previously been a victim of such treatment and protests. The team of ‘Tandav’ has, however, issued a public apology after police complaints were filed in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra for ‘insulting Hindu deities.’ The outbreak quickly escalated and triggered outrage when a statement from UP’s Chief Minister was seen as a warning against the show and the cast.
