The Fault in Our Stars is a 2014 American coming-of-age romance movie directed by Josh Boone, the movie is based on John Green’s 2012 novel of a similar name. The film stars Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, with Laura Dern, Sam Trammell, Nat Wolff, and Willem Dafoe as supporting characters. Woodley plays a sixteen-year-old cancer patient forced by her folks to go to a care group, where she meets, and hence experiences love with another cancer patient, played by Elgort.
It debuted at Seattle International Film Festival on May 16, 2014, was released on June 6, 2014 (United States), and grossed $307.2 million around the world. Film locations were Pittsburgh and Oakmont, Pennsylvania, including UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and The Mansions On Fifth Luxury Hotel. The church scene in the movie was shot at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. The extra shooting occurred in Amsterdam.
The Fault in Our Stars follows Hazel and Gus, two young teenagers who meet at a cancer care support group. They become instant friends, and Hazel tells Gus about her affection for the author, Peter Van Houten, who currently lives in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Needing to find out about the endings of one of his books, Gus uses his Make-A-Wish trip to take Hazel to Amsterdam to meet him.

Where was The Fault In Our Star Filmed?
Amsterdam has been sought after as a film shoot location. Yet, one of the latest and perhaps the most popular movies in the most recent year has been The Fault in Our Stars in Amsterdam (TFIOS). Teenagers and older people alike the same are running to see where different scenes from the Fault In Our Stars were shot all over the Dutch capital city, AKA Amsterdam. In Amsterdam, three days of the shooting took place. Most filming of the movie was shot in Amsterdam and Pittsburgh.
Woodley and Elgort were shot on a waterway side public seat. Shooting in Pittsburgh included the inside scenes at the Anne Frank House, which was recreated on a soundstage at Pittsburgh Studios situated in Churchill, Pennsylvania, in the eastern rural areas of Pittsburgh. Production designer Molly Hughes and workmanship chief Greg Weimerskirch constructed three different studio sets in Pittsburgh, one for each floor. Likewise, the Funky Bones craftsmanship landmark in Indianapolis was recreated in Pittsburgh with the assistance of the sculpture creator, Dutch craftsman Joep van Lieshout. 1. Peter van Houten,Vondelstraat 162, 1054 GV
In the film, Peter van Houten is Hazel’s favorite writer and is the reason for the couple coming to Amsterdam in the first place. The made-up author’s house is depicted in the film as an ordinary brick house on a serene street (find it at Vondelstraat 162) close to the agile Vondelpark, and a walk around this area of Amsterdam is generally a delight.

This is a two-part Fault in Our Stars filming location, as the Hotel De Filosoof exists in Amsterdam, yet it was not utilized as the location in the actual movie. The Hotel De Filosoof in the film is depicted as the American Hotel, the beautiful and effortless art-deco hotel that sits at the center point of the clamoring Leidseplein (find it at Leidsekade 97). The genuine Hotel De Filosoof merits a look as well, however, as it is strategically placed close to the corner from Peter van Houten’s fictional house and is recognizable by its dazzling green sign (track down it at Anna van cave Vondelstraat 6).

3. The Famous The Fault In Our Stars Bench, Leidsegracht 4, 1016 EJ
The most pursued of all The Fault in Our Stars shoot location in Amsterdam, the bench is the place where Augustus shares his enormous news with Hazel, and the couple has a famous hug. The bench has been re-installed after momentarily vanishing a year ago. Situated close to the intersection of two beautiful Amsterdam canals, the Herengracht and Leidsegracht, the bench seems to be some other green canal seat bench, however, fans of the film know how special the scene shot here was, and sitting on the bench makes sure to give you goosebumps.
4. The Anne Frank House, Westermarkt 20, 1016 GV
The Anne Frank House (at Prinsengracht 263-267) is one of the most famous locations for travelers in Amsterdam, and Hazel and Augustus visit after their terrible meeting with Peter van Houten. Film fans will recall these scenes of Hazel struggling to scale the steep steps inside, and it is where the two sweethearts wind up sharing their first kiss.
5. Amsterdam Tram#4
Augustus and Hazel share a ride on the city center tram, and you can recreate their journey by boarding at the verdant Frederiksplein. Ride Tram #4 two stops to the Keizersgracht stop for a picturesque walk around perhaps the prettiest piece of Amsterdam’s Canal Belt.
