Red Table Talk Season 5 returns under a month after the Oscars ceremony (27 March), where Pinkett Smith’s husband, Will Smith, slapped Chris Rock before in the face before going to accept the award for Best Actor. Jada Pinkett Smith is set to get back with her mom Adrienne Banfield Norris and daughter Willow Smith for the fifth season on Red Table Talk. In their Facebook Watch talk show trailer, we see the trio hosting an important line-up of guests, including eight-time Grammy candidate Janelle Monáe, Oscar winner Kim Basinger and her daughter Ireland Baldwin, and the parents of Miss USA, who died by suicide this year. This season will likewise feature siblings Willow, Jaden and Trey Smith taking over the table interestingly.
The trailer takes us deep into the candid confessions, healing process and exclusive insights into their personal life. However the trailer doesn’t explain whether the Smiths will address Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Academy Awards this year, one can expect significantly more is in store than what the promo recommends. Following the altercation, Smith apologized and left the Academy on 1 April. On 8 April, the Academy moved to forbid Smith from Oscar’s ceremonies for the following 10 years.

Season five starts with an episode featuring Janelle Monáe, “Janelle Monáe’s Hidden Struggles.” The Grammy-nominated artist-musician will share an “inspiring message for anybody who’s consistently felt as they didn’t fit in or can’t act like themselves,” as per the episode description. Janelle will explain “how she defeated her fear of abandonment and healed from the traumatizing effects of her dad’s drug use.”
“I’m super honoured to be here,” Janelle says in the trailer. “My father had gotten on crack cocaine, I was dealing with real rejection, abandonment issues.” The trailer teases other guests, too, including the parents of Miss USA Cheslie Kryst, who unfortunately died by suicide; Oscar winner Kim Basinger, in her first-ever interview in over a decade, with daughter Ireland Baldwin discussing her anxiety; Tinder Swindler victim Ayleen Charlotte; and Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran. “I have been in an abusive relationship, I have been in emotional, verbal, very gaslit-manipulative connections,” Ireland says in the clip. “I’ve had to deal with a lot of different kinds of abuse.

The trailer additionally teases an episode of the Smiths sibling as Willow, Jaden, and Trey feature in their first solo episode altogether. It’s not yet clear if the children will address the recent incident including their dad Will Smith. The show has previously shown the family come out in open about their relationship and bond including an emotional episode of Will and Jada.

Will Smith And Chris Rock Oscar Incident
Pinkett Smith has not made any public appearances since Will, 53, slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars on March 27. The presenter, 57, cracked a joke about the Wicked Wisdom artist, who has been vocal about her battle with alopecia, joining G.I. Jane 2 because of her short hair. The Ali star strolled up in front of an audience and hit Rock with an open hand. Will got back to his seat, where he yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out your f-king mouth.”
He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role not long after the incident for King Richard. He apologized during his speech and through Instagram the next day. After five days, Smith resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the association banned him from the Oscars for the following 10 years.
Pinkett Smith has been generally quiet on the subject since her husband struck the award-show presenter over a joke about her shaved head (the Girls Trip entertainer has been exceptionally vocal about her battles with alopecia). On March 29, she shared a simple graphic on Instagram, which read, “This is a season for healing, and I’m here for it”.
