RuPaul’s Drag race is it scripted or real?
Many people, including those close to the production and viewers, have claimed that ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ is false and manufactured to varying degrees. However, because the program is a reality competition at its foundation, it is quite clear that not everything is as it seems on TV. After all, even reality shows like “Project Runway” and “America’s Next Top Model” have been dogged by accusations of falsification.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Brooke Lynn Hytes, the runner-up of the eleventh season and one of the program’s most popular and prominent competitors, revealed some surprising details about the show. According to Hytes, the contestants are somewhat pre-informed on the runway themes. That’s acceptable given the length of time it takes to make the outfits. “So they give you an idea, but it’s never really specific,” says the narrator. “A day before the runway, you discover out what the actual concept is,” Hytes explained. As a result, the participants may have no idea how the topics would be presented in the competition.
The confessional interviews, which provide us a glimpse into the participants’ brains and feelings, are one of the most intriguing elements of the show. During the recording of these interviews, the applicants are instructed to wear only one outfit, according to Hytes. This supports the popular theory that the interviews aren’t always shot or played in the same sequence. The candidates receive the music for the lip-sync fights on an iPod, as well as lyrics on a sheet, according to Hytes. This implies that the queens are given some time to prepare for their shows.
On online forums, viewers have engaged in heated debates about the events shown in the show, with wildly divergent viewpoints on a variety of topics. One person who claimed to be connected to the show’s production, for example, accused the creative team of interfering with the completion of specific stories frequently. Some of the allegations made by the user may be found here.
On the other hand, despite these contentious accusations regarding the show’s authenticity, one aspect that the show’s supporters like are the tales of the queens that compete. The majority of the competitors have gone through horrific events in their lives. The show allows them to talk about their experiences and evolve as a result of them. Ultimately, ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ is about embracing your identity and displaying your uniqueness via drag performance.
