Adrian Coss and Maribel Ocano are two individuals who filed a lawsuit against Snapchat. Their accusation states the application uses their personal information when their faces get scanned. But, this happens every time you take a selfie or apply a filter. However, if this allegation proves correct, Snapchat could be in big trouble and might face a severe financial loss. Moreover, people whose information has been taken by Snapchat, if found guilty, can win up to $5000 as a civil penalty. In 2021, Snapchat was part of one more allegation regarding its ‘speed filter.’ Many parents raised concerns regarding this filter, citing it as unsafe for young teens. Significantly, while driving, this particular filter became even more dangerous. It became a source to show other kids how the vehicle was moving.

In a recent event, three kids died in a car crash while using the filter to showcase more speed. Afterward, it was reported that the kids reached a top speed of 123 mph when they crashed.

The Future

What happens in the court proceedings is yet to decide. Snapchat might have to face the charges, which could end incorrectly for the media platform. If found guilty, Snapchat must be ready to meet a substantial financial loss. Furthermore, the misuse of users of privacy is a matter of great concern for everyone.
