Sophie Labelle is a Canadian-born actress, dancer, singer, and thoughtful content creator. She earned her BFA from New York University, where she studied Experimental Theater and Gender and Sexuality Studies, and she earned her Master’s degree in Art Politics, also from New York University.
She has appeared in film, television, and theater in both New York and Los Angeles, fronted her band Riot Her Girl, and produced her stage work. She recently played her Angel in the ground-breaking film Ponyboy, which premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival. Sophie co-produced, co-starred and co-directed the quirky and conscious comedy No Chill with her amazing producing partner Janelle Renee Pearson.
Just two seasons later, No Chill was featured on Elizabeth Banks’ streaming site Whohaha and her second on Comedy Central Stage. She is also vegan and Capricorn. On Wednesday, Labelle faced more online death threats to publish her new comic book in Halifax. Labelle doesn’t believe her high-profile coverage of the C16 debate before a Senate committee last week prompted the attacks. The bill, her third iteration in an attempt to codify safeguards in Canadian human rights and criminal law, will be sent to the Senate for her third and final reading vote next month.

Assigned Male, a webcomic about an 11-year-old transgender girl named Stephanie who is in the early stages of transition and coming out to those around her, was created by Montreal-based artist Sophie Labelle over the past two years.
While the queer webcomic community has praised Labelle’s work for its candid and compelling portrayal of the lives of transgender youth, the artist has recently come under fire for targeted attacks by online trolls.
Recently, Labelle wrote her new book named, Dating Tips for Trans and Queer Weirdos. She was eventually prepared to give the inauguration party for this new book last week. However, Labelle decided to cancel the event for the safety of its guests after receiving thousands of violent threats to demolish the opening.
Once Heywood quoted that “If people continue as employees just to host events, the thing is all of us will definitely need to consider how someone feels about publishing events and later, gave the threat of violence. After the book’s publication was delayed, Labelle continued to face online harassment. Eventually, these trolls hacked the assigned man’s Facebook page and deleted her work over three years.
Ms. Labelle first decided to call the police but ultimately decided not to because she wasn’t sure whether they would take harassment seriously or how they would handle the matter. Label resumed uploading comics and left her former residence.
“They think they are keeping civilization alive by spreading memes about how I should be killed. They claim the victim ‘tripped,’” Labelle said on Facebook the day before. This is strange because I think you are the one who was “triggered” by my existence said, Labelle.
