During a match on January 2, NFL player Damar Hamlin experienced a heart attack. During the game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills at Cincinnati’s Paycor Stadium, the Buffalo Bills defender passed out on the pitch minutes after receiving a hit.
Prior to being evacuated from the scene in an ambulance and transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Hamlin’s heartbeat was revived by the team, independent medical specialists, and community medics.
Here are the latest details regarding the condition, updates and more About Damar Hamlin and what was the real reason
What Happened To Damar Hamlin?
During a relatively regular play that didn’t look particularly violent, Hamlin was wounded while hitting Bengals receiver Tee Higgins in the opening period of the game. By leading with his right shoulder and striking Hamlin in the chest, Higgins was carrying the ball on a 13-yard throw from Joe Burrow.
Higgins was then dragged to the ground by Hamlin, who had his arms over his shoulders and headgear. In a matter of seconds, Hamlin sprang up, seemed to fix his face mask with his dominant hand, stumbled and fell, and then he lay still for nearly three seconds.
During the 19 minutes when Hamlin was unconscious, he received medical assistance. The automatic external defibrillator (AED) as well as CPR on the field were both necessary for Hamlin, according to local Cincinnati media.
He was “listed in a critical state,” and the Bills later confirmed that anesthesia had been administered. The next day, Hamlin’s family disclosed that even though he remained in a critical state in the ICU, he would have been at least “moving higher.” On January 4, an update noted that he was moving in “a favourable path,” which was a continuation of the previous promising information.
When the Bills stated that safety Hamlin had “shown tremendous progress” and appeared to be “neurologically intact” on January 5, more information was given. While some reports said that the 24-year-old had opened his eyes and was grasping the hands of people close to him, teammate Kaiir Elam stated that the man was “conscious” in the hospital.

Hamlin’s team members were noticeably upset when they first saw him on the field, and several of them stayed around to be around him whenever the team arrived back in New York in the early hours of January 3 to be with him. These players included star defensive back Stefon Diggs.
Outside the hospital, supporters of both teams assembled, holding lighted candles, and saying prayers. The NFL announced that the game, which was crucial to the AFC playoff contention with only one week left in the season opener, had been rescheduled.
What Did The Doctors Have To Say Regarding Damar Hamlin Condition?
On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, nine days after collapsing on the football field, Damar Hamlin was released from the hospital. Hamlin will “continue his recuperation at home and with the Bills,” the Buffalo Bills said in a statement posted on their official Twitter account.
“Damar Hamlin has now been discharged from Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute, a Kaleida Health hospital in Buffalo, New York. Hamlin was admitted on Monday and underwent a thorough medical review along with a number of cardiac, neurological, and vascular tests on Tuesday.
In a statement, critical care doctor Dr. Jamie Nadler said that they have finished the series of biological tests and assessments. Also they consulted with the doctors on his team, to medically discharged Damar so he can start his physiotherapy rehabilitation at home.
Just under a week after on-field event, on Saturday, January 7, Hamlin decided to make his first public comment on social media to express gratitude to his supporters. Hamlin said that he is fortunate enough to have the support of his fans who prayed for his speedy recovery after the incident.
