The Notorious B.I.G. was an American rapper whose original name was Christopher George Latore Wallace. Along with The Notorious B.I.G., he was known by other names too, i.e., Biggie Smalls, Biggie, Frank White, Big, Big Poppa, and MC CWest He mostly used to sing in the gangsta rap genre and has given the world the best of the best such as Hypnotize, Big Poppa, Juicy, Notorious Thugs, Get Money, Mo Money Mo Problems, Sky’s the Limit and many more.
Christopher George Latore Wallace was born on May 21, 1972, in NYC. His first album was Ready to Die, which he released in 1994 under the Bad Boy’s label. His first album was a major hit and made under Billboard 200, and because of this album only, he became the main attraction of East Coast Hip Hop, which is a subgenre of Hip Hop. In 1995 he received Billboard Music Awards for being the Rapper of the Year.
The following year, he was caught up in the feud between East Coast Hip Hop and West Coast Hip Hop when he was recording his second album. At the end of 1996, he became famous not because of his music but because of his feud with Tupac Shakur, and also there were rumors about his involvement in Shakur’s murder.
In 1997 on March 9, the Notorious B.I.G. was murdered. Two weeks following the singer’s death, his second album, Life After Death, was released, which was also made under Billboard 200 but this time at number one, and the same album also got Diamond certification. Let’s see what happened that unfortunate night.
How Did Notorious B.I.G. Pass Away?
We have read and seen in a lot of books and movies how a fortunate night is turned into an unfortunate one. In this article, we are also going to talk about this only, but this time it will be different. The difference is that this time it didn’t happen in any book or movie but in real life, with our today’s topic, Notorious B.I.G.
A day before his death which happened on March 9, 1997, Notorious B.I.G was attending the after-party of one of the awards show, Soul Train Awards. After the party was shut down due to the bursting crowd, the singer was returning to his hotel and was positioned in the passenger seat of the car, which was driven by Gregory “G-Money” Young.
The roads were congested, and one of the many cars on that road belonged to an African-American man who shot Notorious B.I.G. The man fired four bullets toward the singer, who was immediately taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for his treatment.
Even though the doctors at the hospital tried to save his life and did a thoracotomy, they couldn’t save him. Wallace died at 1.15 a.m. We can fight any disease, any person, anything for that matter, but we can’t fight with what’s written by the almighty.
The same is the case with Christopher George Latore Wallace, who died at the very young age of 24 years. Who would have known that that celebration would be the last he’ll ever enjoy? One very unfortunate night turned him and his family’s lives upside down.
His funeral took place at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel, which was attended by many personalities. David Dinkins, Jay-Z, Run-D.M.C., Flavor Flav, and Foxy Brown were seen making an appearance at his funeral.
15 years later, his autopsy came, which stated that the final shot entered his right hip and struck his colon and heart, and left lung, finally stopping at his left shoulder. That blow was the most deadly blow he’d received that night. March 9, 2023, will be the singer’s 25th death anniversary.
Even though the singer is not with us and is alive in his fan’s memory but the day will always be remembered as his day in the hip-hop world. It is believed that he was murdered because of the feud between East Coast Hip Hop and West Coast Hip Hop.
The Notorious B.I.G’s Posthumous Releases
