Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes are peeling back the layers of their challenging “year of adversity” following a public scandal. The ousted co-hosts of “GMA3” delved into the tumultuous period when their relationship became public in November 2022, sharing their experiences on the inaugural episode of the “Amy & T.J.” podcast released this Tuesday.

Reflecting on the aftermath, the 50-year-old Robach became emotional, tearfully expressing that there were moments when she felt like she “wanted to die.” The cancer survivor opened up about grappling with unprecedented feelings and the difficulty of facing the public fallout, admitting, “I just didn’t want to get up. I didn’t want to see what new headlines were going to be out there.”

In another heartfelt moment of the episode, Robach revealed the “dark” phase that the 46-year-old Holmes went through after their romance became public. She recounted a distressing incident where she conducted a “welfare check” on Holmes, driven by concern as she received alarming texts from him in the past tense and struggled to get in touch with him through ABC producers.

Recalling the tense situation, Robach described the anxiety she felt and how she, along with her father, rushed to Holmes’ apartment using Uber. They entered his room with the assistance of the doorman, finding him unresponsive on the bed. “It was the most awful thing having to touch your body and see if you were warm. I was so afraid. You were just incoherent,” she shared.

Holmes explained the circumstances that led to his distressed state, detailing a day of excessive drinking and consuming numerous weed edibles. Despite the harrowing experience, the pair assured their listeners that they are currently “happier than ever” and deeply in love. They emphasized the strength of their bond, describing themselves as “best friends” whose relationship has only grown “stronger and better” as they now plan a life together in the aftermath of the scandal.

The comprehensive episode, touching on various aspects of their journey, coincided with the anniversary of the day they were suspended from their respective jobs. At that time, Robach and Holmes were still married to Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig, respectively. Although they denied having an affair, they clarified that their previous unions had concluded when they were publicly revealed as a couple.

On Tuesday, the former ABC personalities, who had maintained silence on the scandal until now, characterized themselves as “the folks who lost the jobs [they] love because [they] love each other.”
