Mama June Shannon has reached out for support, using Instagram to request prayers for her family on Friday. While the 44-year-old reality star did not specify the exact reason for seeking prayers, she included the hashtag #cancersucks. The plea is connected to her daughter Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, who is currently undergoing treatment for stage 4 adrenal carcinoma since being diagnosed in January.
Shannon expressed gratitude for the thoughts and prayers in her Instagram post, stating, “Y’all, we are asking for prayers for our family as we are going through this process. We really appreciate y’all for all the thoughts and prayers, and we will update y’all whenever we can. Just know that all of your thoughts and your prayers are very much appreciated during this time.”
Her 23-year-old daughter Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird shared the plea on her Instagram Story, adding, “Say a prayer for our family.” Doctors confirmed Cardwell’s cancer after she reported stomach aches, revealing the disease in her liver, kidney, and lung through tests. She underwent her first round of chemotherapy in March, with updates on her treatment posted on Instagram.
In May, Cardwell shared a selfie with her boyfriend, Eldridge Toney, announcing she was moving on to round 3 of chemo and expressing optimism about the treatment’s effectiveness. Shannon, in an interview with PEOPLE earlier that month, disclosed feeling emotionally drained since her daughter’s diagnosis, emphasizing her difficulty dealing with public inquiries.
Cardwell, in July, revealed she would not undergo more chemotherapy but might consider immune therapy or clinical trials in the future. The aggressive nature of the cancer has made the prognosis uncertain. In October, she posted a TikTok video with Toney, playfully addressing her regrowing hair following chemotherapy, saying, “Ignore the hair, okay? I don’t know what it’s doing. So just go with the flow.”
