Actress Sienna Miller has addressed the challenges and criticism she has faced as a mother expecting her second child at the age of 41, particularly highlighting the “misogynistic” narrative surrounding her 14-year age gap with her partner.
The lead in “American Woman” and soon-to-be mother of a baby girl with 27-year-old actor Oli Green expressed her frustration with the prevailing “double standards” in society on this matter. Speaking on Vogue’s podcast, Miller denounced the deeply ingrained “misogynistic and patriarchal” attitudes that perpetuate such judgments.
“People are comfortable with a way of living that has existed for many years,” Miller stated, emphasizing the unquestioned nature of societal norms. She criticized the prevailing viewpoint that deems her situation as ‘irresponsible’ or raises concerns about the well-being of the child.
Miller, who already has an 11-year-old daughter, Marlowe, from a previous relationship, expressed her weariness in an interview with British Vogue, lamenting the need to constantly address discussions about her age. She desires a future where she doesn’t feel compelled to make light of her age while having a baby.
Addressing the age difference between herself and actor Oli Green, Miller pointed out the evolving awareness of relationship dynamics between men and women in contemporary times. She acknowledged the contrasts in their upbringing, highlighting the challenges she faced during her adolescence compared to Green’s peers, who have grown up in a different cultural landscape.
Recalling their meeting at a Halloween party, Miller described an initial hesitancy to pursue a relationship despite a kiss. It took effort on Green’s part to convince her to go out for a drink, with friend Emily Blunt inadvertently acting as a “wingwoman” on one of their early dates.
Miller dismisses the significance of age, asserting that matters of the heart cannot be legislated. She emphasizes the need to challenge societal norms and perceptions surrounding age differences in relationships.
