Former President Donald Trump emerged victorious in the Republican primary held on Tuesday night in New Hampshire, according to a report from the New York Times. Trump secured a significant lead over former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, with a voter percentage of 54.6% compared to Haley’s 43.2%.
Despite the setback, Haley conveyed to her supporters that she would not be withdrawing from the presidential race, as reported by CNBC. In a speech following the networks’ projection of Trump’s victory, Haley expressed, “What a great night.”
Trump, on the other hand, delivered a triumphant speech in Nashua after securing the win. He commented on Haley’s performance, stating, “Let’s not have somebody take a victory when she had a very bad night. She had a very bad night.”
Reports from a Republican fundraiser indicated that a significant donor who raised $100,000 for Haley considered the campaign as concluded. The fundraiser, choosing to remain anonymous, mentioned that there might be more donors following suit as the night progressed. Additionally, financiers supporting Haley were reportedly exploring options for an exit.
On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden secured victory in the New Hampshire primary for his party, running as a write-in candidate since his name was not on the ballot.
In a statement released by his campaign, Biden acknowledged, “It is now clear that Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee,” emphasizing the high stakes involved. He urged Republicans and independents to support him in the upcoming general election in November.
Biden praised the democratic process and appealed to those who share common values, saying, “It was a historic demonstration of commitment to our democratic process. And I want to say to all those Independents and Republicans who share our commitment to core values of our nation — our Democracy, our personal freedoms, an economy that gives everyone a fair shot — to join us as Americans.”
