According to court documents and jail information, country music artist Chris Young was arrested on Monday night in Nashville, Tennessee.
The charges against him include assault of an officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct, as reported by Nashville police and Davidson County sheriff’s records and affidavits obtained by NBC News.
The alleged assault occurred at a bar near the Country Music Hall of Fame, just off Broadway’s nightlife district, where Young reportedly assaulted Joseph T. Phillips, an agent with Tennessee’s Alcohol Beverage Commission.
Phillips claims that Young began following agents during routine compliance checks at Tin Roof, where his ID was checked, and then proceeded to DawgHouse next door. Young, along with “multiple friends,” reportedly followed the agents.
According to Phillips, Young tried to prevent him from leaving, put his hands out, and allegedly struck the agent on the shoulder. Phillips pushed Young to create distance, leading to a chaotic situation with patrons getting involved.
The affidavits state that Young, with bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, was put in handcuffs by two agents and arrested around 10 p.m. He was released at 1:09 a.m. on Tuesday after posting a $2,500 bond. His court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 16.
Bill Ramsey, Young’s attorney, asserted that his client should never have been arrested or charged, calling for the Tennessee ABC to drop the charges and apologize based on video evidence. A representative for Young and the Tennessee Alcohol and Beverage Commission did not provide immediate comments.
Chris Young, known for winning the fourth edition of “Nashville Star” in 2006, promoting his upcoming album “Young Love & Saturday Nights” on Facebook, was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2017 for his song “Think of You.”
