Donald Trump’s legal team is supporting the call for the dismissal of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in the 2020 election subversion case against the former president and his co-defendants in Georgia.

The move is based on alleged misconduct involving a romantic relationship between Willis and the lead prosecutor, Nathan Wade, as well as financial benefits reportedly received by Willis during vacations with him.

In a filing in Fulton County Superior Court, Trump’s attorneys joined an effort initiated by one of his co-defendants, who previously claimed that Willis engaged in a romantic relationship with the special prosecutor and benefitted financially from their association.

The filing also emphasizes public comments made by Willis, defending her choice of lead prosecutor and raising concerns about her adherence to Georgia rules for prosecutors.

Steve Sadow, Trump’s attorney, stated, “The motion filed today on behalf of President Trump seeks to hold District Attorney Willis legally accountable both for the misconduct alleged in a motion filed by Mr. Roman as well as her extrajudicial public statements falsely and intentionally injecting race into this case.”

Willis recently made comments at Atlanta’s Big Bethel A.M.E. Church, defending her prosecutorial team and questioning the motivations behind attacking only one of the three prosecutors.

She asked, “Is it that some will never see a Black man as qualified – no matter his achievements? What more can one achieve? The other two have never been judges, but no one questions their credentials.”

The district attorney’s office has chosen not to provide comments on the latest filing.

Trump’s legal team argues that Willis deliberately sought to introduce racial bias against the defendants with her comments, potentially prejudicing the public and prospective jurors.

They claim that Willis’s comments violate Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct and suggest that the maximum penalty for such a violation is disbarment.

“The DA’s comments directly ran afoul of Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct,” state Trump’s attorneys in the filing. They argue that Willis’s attempt to generate racial animus against the defendants, diverting attention from her alleged improprieties, warrants sanctions in the form of dismissal and disqualification.

As the legal battle unfolds, the case remains a focal point in the broader discussion about election subversion, with both sides engaging in legal maneuvers and attempts to discredit key figures involved in the proceedings.
