Fulton County Prosecutor Fani Willis has come to the defense of Nathan Wade, her lead prosecutor in the Trump case, in response to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan’s inquiry. Jordan had initiated a probe into Willis, seeking records pertaining to allegations of corruption and an “improper” relationship with Wade.
Willis’ staunch support for Wade highlights their unified stance in prosecuting former President Donald Trump, particularly during an election year.
Former President Trump and a co-defendant in Willis’s case have accused both Willis and Wade of corruption, citing reasons such as maintaining an improper romantic relationship, benefiting financially from the taxpayer-funded prosecution, and allegedly meeting with Biden administration officials before indicting Trump and the co-defendants.
In a letter obtained by Breitbart News, Willis responded to Jordan, stating, “Your letter is simply a restatement of demands that you have made in past correspondence for access to evidence in a pending Georgia criminal prosecution.”
She emphasized the significant confidentiality interests related to an ongoing criminal matter and contended that Jordan’s request violated principles of separation of powers and federalism, as well as legal protections for attorney work product in ongoing litigation.
Jordan initiated the investigation into Willis on January 12, focusing on her acceptance of over $14.6 million in grant funds from President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) between 2020 and 2023. The investigation implies that the DOJ provided federal funds to support the prosecution of former President Trump.
Facing additional scrutiny, Willis is now subject to a subpoena-powered investigation approved by the Georgia State Senate by a vote of 30-19. A Georgia judge had previously ordered Willis to respond in writing to corruption accusations by February 2, with a subsequent televised statement on February 15.
Moreover, Willis and Wade are anticipated to be subpoenaed regarding allegations of their affair during Wade’s ongoing and unsealed divorce case. This development could shed light on the alleged “improper” relationship between Willis and Wade during their case against Trump.
